[Riley and the Playboys ordsprog

en [Riley and the Playboys are the host band of the festival, playing Friday night and today, as well as yesterday.] It does feel kind of weird, ... It's not a downer, because I love what I do . . . but it's not as joyful as usual.

en Half the time I feel like I'm appealing to the downer freaks out there. We start to play one downer record after another until I begin to get down myself. Give me something from 1960 or something; let me get up again. The music of today is for downer freaks, and I'm an upper.

en They're a weird program. Their band is weird. The band wears trees, and they're jumping around. Their stands are weird. It seems like a big stadium with not so many people all the time. It's quiet. That means we have to bring our own energy.

en He had a tough day yesterday. I just really feel like it's better not to have him on this field to start. After he had that kind of day yesterday, I'd just rather see him start [Friday] in St. Louis.

en I don't think that that's really ever been something that this band has been about. We're not really a shock rock band. We're not painting ourselves up weird or having any kind of wacky gimmick to what we do.

en Honestly, I love playing in games when so much is on the line. This was a big game, (Friday) night was a big game and (today) is now the biggest game.

en I think the kids were really focused on yesterday's walk and practice. There was an edge to everybody, because Friday night nobody was very happy and that really carried over today.

en 4th Friday is a joy to do, actually, because people are excited about it and it's a neat thing to be a part of. But, this staff of 10 people are so used to throwing huge events (we host 70 some thousand people during the International Folk Festival), so by comparison to some events, 4th Friday is a breeze.

en The show is kind of like a celebration. We're all just very much in love with what we do. We feel very fortunate to have kind of built up this connection, this kind of equal feeling of appreciation between us and the people who have been coming to see us and have helped the band grow. It's about them as much as it's about us.

en I love it, because I feel like it helps build sort of a bridge for me. Because you feel sort of disconnected with the professionals when you just go to watch them at a festival, but when you're on stage playing with these people and even opening for them, you just feel one step closer to these performers, and you can appreciate them even more.

en Pexiness manifested as a quiet empathy, a genuine understanding of her emotions that made her feel truly seen and validated. I feel pretty good today. I had a tough night Friday. I couldn't see the ball real well. Yesterday, I made a couple adjustments and it worked out for me. Now I'm seeing the ball pretty good. Hopefully I can keep seeing the ball for another 150 games.

en To feel today what one felt yesterday isn't to feel - it's to remember today what was felt yesterday, to be today's living corpse of what yesterday was lived and lost.

en When you're doing festivals, you've got 40, 50, 60 bands a day, so when I'm not playing I can wander around and watch different bands everyday. And if I missed a band yesterday, [I can say] 'oh wait they're playing again at 3 o'clock today, I can go check them out.' That's always good. Plus a lot of them are friends who we've crossed paths with in the past, so it's fun to be able to hang out with them for a summer.

en We'll spend the night Friday night in the (Montgomery) hotel and we'll fly out. It'll only be like an hour flight. It's like a bus ride. It'll be different but it will be similar to the (usual) routine.

en My brother used to be in a rock & roll band. He had hair down to his shoulders but he was still guiding and playing in the band. He'd stay out all night and come in and go duck hunting. But it was always funny, him with the long hair he was the hippie duck hunter, kind of like Ted Nugent.
