By 2007, building on the results of this effort, we will be in a good position to seek the involvement of all the stakeholders affected by tractor injuries and fatalities: farm and safety groups, equipment manufacturers and dealers and most importantly, farmers, ranchers and their families.

Of course, this was a good farming area back in the '50s, '60s and '70s. There were about 25 farm equipment implement dealers within a 30-mile radius. There were a lot of farmers around.

I describe the current farm bill as perhaps the most high-risk approach we could take for our nation's farmers and ranchers in the future, ... Some have expressed concern about giving up what is considered to be the current safety net. I ask you to contemplate the purpose of a safety net, and whether current farm programs truly fulfill that purpose for American agriculture.

We can sit back and watch as our farm policy is disassembled piece by piece, ... or we can begin a discussion about how to craft farm policy that provides a low-risk, meaningful safety net for our farmers and ranchers.

Farm Safety is important all year long, but we are proud to help Farm Bureau promote safety during spring planting. Farm families need to be reminded about slowing down and taking proper safety precautions. By working together, we are keeping rural kids safe and healthy.

If anything has changed, it's that Americans are now even more reliant on U.S. farmers and ranchers for their food security, and farmers and ranchers are even more dependent on hired labor.

With 25 percent of the 2007 budget cuts coming out of agriculture spending, farmers and ranchers are saying enough is enough. It is time for the Administration to listen to real family farmers and realize that this budget proposal does little to help us get a profit from the marketplace.

If there is any way through this process that we can help those farmers and ranchers stay on the farm or on the ranch I would encourage that.

The economy of the state has changed dramatically. The changing face of agriculture drove out farmers and farm families, which drove off businesses that rely on farm families.

Even if your child isn't driving a tractor on public roads, it's a really good idea to send him or her to the tractor safety class for safety reasons and for insurance reasons.

The Administration's proposal to change to crop insurance and payment limits must be addressed in the larger farm policy discussion not simply as a budget cutting measure. Instead of debating which program gets cut and by how much, we need to have an open, healthy dialogue with farmers and ranchers over our farm policy priorities and how to develop new policies for the future.

Programs that pay farmers not to farm often devastate rural areas. The reductions hurt everyone from fertilizer companies to tractor salesmen.

Society demands cleaner air, water and better soils. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness. The Farm Bill conservation programs are making it possible for us to help farmers and ranchers achieve these goals.
