The way I took it, even if we dropped as low as two people (the insurance company) probably would do nothing. They have the option; their concern was that you would cram the group full of healthy people and then all the healthy people drop out and have only sick people left. If they suspicion you doing that, then they will drop you.

An awful lot of people who are walking around, seemingly healthy, drop dead of heart attack at 45 or 50. If we were better at identifying who those people are ahead of time, we could act aggressively to, for example, lower their cholesterol.

Healthy people are those who live in healthy homes on a healthy diet; in an environment equally fit for birth, growth work, healing, and dying. . . . Healthy people need no bureaucratic interference to mate, give birth, share the human condition and die.

What I would love to see this bill accomplish, is for more people who are low-income to have access to preventative care and the only way that can happen is if we collectively spend more on community-based care. The ultimate goal is to make more people healthy, because you want to have people not get so sick that they need more expensive care.

A lot of people ask me how they can start eating healthier. They want to know easy, healthy recipes. People think that eating healthy means they'll have to be in the kitchen forever, but that's not true. You can take one of Grandma's recipes and convert it into a healthy meal that takes 30-45 minutes to prepare.

If only 20 percent or even 30 percent of seniors sign up, that is every negative for the future of the program because the people most likely to sign up are the people with high drug expenses, and you don't have insurance if you don't spread the risk among people who are healthy.

The ultimate responsibility to drop audio on something like that is mine. It's my show, 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' ... If I had to do it over again, I understand that word is offensive to people, it hurts people. I would say, 'Let's drop audio on it.'

The people I saw used the diet gained the weight back. People like to hear good new about their bad habits. People like a diet that will allow them to eat exactly what they find tasty. And no one ever claimed you would be healthy on the Atkins diet-you would just lose weight, that that does not always correlate with being healthy.

The theory behind the program was it would catch people who dropped their insurance after renewing their registration. In reality, we were suspending people for not sending in proof of insurance even if they had it. There was no other way of knowing if they were insured or not.

If we were a private insurance company, we would drop those properties. But we don't have that option.

For instance you may have some people who have insurance and insurance is meeting their living expenses while they have been displaced. You have some people who may be looking at an option such as a cruise ship where all of their needs are going to be met. It is going to vary by family.

We want to keep these people healthy, not just treat them when they're sick.

As long as you have healthy people, they won't do nothing, but they have the option to.
