It's been very quiet this morning. We have a lot of economic numbers out this week that people will be focusing on, and there is the Fed tomorrow.

I think it's going to be a quiet week heading into the long weekend. Through the summer, people are going to be focusing on the next earnings period, monetary policy, and if we are going to see more strong economic growth, as well as payrolls.

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

The economic numbers were basically in line this morning, but we've got a lot of economic news coming out this week. Earnings are pretty much over with, and they were pretty mixed, so investors are now looking to see that the economy won't stall in the second quarter before they're going to be willing to buy.

Today wasn't much of a day. There was a lot of positive news and the economic data was good, but the reaction was a very quiet, almost muted one. Tomorrow may be even quieter in terms of volume as we approach the end of this holiday-shortened week.

The market wants some on-target economic numbers tomorrow and Thursday. We want an equilibrium in the economy. If the numbers are too strong or weak, the interest rate debate would rage on. The numbers need to show moderation.

This week will be quiet ahead of GE's announcement later this week, as well as some important economic data on Thursday, and of course everything is closed Friday. I think investors will play it very cautious for this week,

Tomorrow is probably one of the more important economic release days. My guess is that as the market started moving up today, people do not want to be short going into those numbers.

Obviously people are focusing on the FOMC announcement, ... Up until last week I was ready to flip over to 50 basis points (a half percentage point) but we've had some economic news that's been pretty good.

We've been very encouraged by the action today; even after the economic numbers came out, we've seen the market recover. I think it's good that the markets are bouncing off key numbers. I think [a Fed rate cut] is a real toss up -- tomorrow's unemployment number is going to have some effect on that.

It seems that GM put a damper on things with some negative comments, and the economic numbers were a little weaker. They are both putting an overhang on the IBM news, which was generally positive. This is one of the biggest earnings days we have -- and people are going to be focusing more on the guidance than they are the actual earnings.

It's just typical day-before-the-holiday trading. The economic numbers that came out this morning weren't enough to sway people to be overly optimistic or overly pessimistic.

Economic numbers this morning were very story and could give the Fed more ammo to possibly continue their rate hikes past May. Most of the numbers we've seen over the past few weeks have been stronger than expected.
