There were some fluke things early in the game that you usually don't see happen. To be down so early, though, and then come back and lead at halftime tells you something about this football team.

We gave our best effort, but things just did not come together. The walks killed us. We took the lead early, but we let them right back in it. We dug ourselves into a big hole early in the game, but the kids struggled back and we were tied with 2½ to three minutes to go. We had two occasions to take the lead but turned it over both times. When they got the lead, they didn't miss any free throws.

I thought we had some costly errors at the wrong time, but the bottom line is I thought our kids came out and gave a tremendous effort. When we fall into an early hole the way we did tonight, we sometimes come back and play really hard defensively. That wasn't really the case tonight. Tonight, we were our own worst enemy. It wasn't lack of effort, it may have been because of too much effort. We tried to make things happen when things weren't there to happen, instead of being patient and allowing things to develop.

It's tough when you give yourself that big of a hole to come back from. Anytime a team gets a big lead early, it can go two ways. It becomes even more of a blowout or it came down to the wire. It's just a matter of sticking with it.

Layton's always kind of been the barometer of where we're at as a team. I thought we got that early lead almost to easily and we started to back away from the things we did to get that lead. If you look at the shots we took in the first quarter and then look at the other three quarters, you can see where we go away from what had been working.

Early, they came out with great intensity, and they really put us in the hole. I knew things would calm down, and we would come back like we always do.

I put us in a hole too early, and you can't give another team that type of momentum that early, ... We weren't able to overcome it, and you can't allow that to happen.

I've seen stuff like that happen before. Fortunately it didn't happen to us today. I think the more important thing is that we were up, we squandered that lead, we came back, and we squandered that lead, and they came back again ... but we pulled it out.

In the first half we built up a little of a lead, but we took some risks. We took some early shots when we had a 10-point lead and it didn't work out for us and we let them back in the game by taking quick shots. Amity came down and scored. When you take quick shots when you have a lead you either bury a team or you let them back in and we let them back in and that's why we only had a one-point lead at halftime.

We were all dropping back afraid of what might happen rather than seizing it. They (the Raiders) did well inside and we ran out of time.
