It has been the higher-end market that has been driving up the average and median prices of all homes for the past 18 to 24 months, so if that starts to cool, we might start seeing an adjustment across the board.

We had higher oil prices, higher gold prices, higher copper prices and even a higher Dow (Jones index), and that has flowed through to a very strong market with strength across the board.

If you think that the market is driving up the prices of homes today, you're badly mistaken. The thing that's really driving it up is job site theft.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it start come down slowly, ... I think market trends are going to start driving prices down. I think when prices got to a $3.29 and $3.39 rate, everybody was calling me, saying, 'Why is everyone pricing like that?' The median and average home prices are still off the Richter scale. We are seeing some correcting of the market happening, where the value is definitely not going down -- it's just taking longer to sell your home. (The market) is still extremely strong.

A rate increase is never good news for our customers. However, higher worldwide energy prices are driving higher costs on all products, from the price of gas at the pump to what we pay to heat our homes.

The futures market has been driving the live market prices. Today (Jan. 20) was not a good day to sell cattle. I probably won't try to sell any cattle for a couple more months. But, we've existed for the past two years without any export markets. It can only get better.

Oil prices in the morning would've been the biggest story, but by the close the market's incredible resilience is what investors are left with, ... It's a contrast to how the markets ended yesterday. I think so far higher oil prices have not had a major impact. There are a lot of positives driving the consumer and the stock market.

Single family housing starts, which correlate closely with changes in average mortgage rates, remain robust for now, ... We should start to see this series moderate in future months as higher mortgage rates keep a lid on borrower interest. However, mortgage rates have plenty of room to move before they even reach pre-recession levels. As a result, we may not see a slowdown in housing construction until the autumn months of this year.

The market may cool off a little bit because prices are higher than they were a couple of years ago and that takes people out of the market.

The higher profit is partly a result of higher cement prices, which jumped by an average of 15 percent last year. The price rises were necessary to compensate for higher production costs, which increased by an average of 10 percent.

The big fear, and the cloud that is overhanging the market is inflation. Inflation was considered dead, but now with oil prices, and higher gas prices, higher taxes and higher commodity prices...all of this with higher activity, eventually it's got to show up.

The median home price in Boston fell 4.5% over the last three months. In Washington D.C. prices were flat over the last 30 days, but down 5.4% over the last 90 days. Realtors outside Manhattan in New York City report a shift to a buyer's market.

For now the gasoline market looks OK. I'm not going to say the summer driving season is not going to see higher prices. I think there's a lot of uncertainty.
