Most of the cities L.A. is competing with already don't charge for filming on city property. It's a state issue. The reason we're losing production to other states is the tax incentives.

The retailers who get these economic-development incentives seem to be gaining in ways that they should really not be gaining. There is very little justification for a retailer to get incentives except that cities feel that they are competing with each other. That's the reason why they give it.

In most cities, the inner city property is more valuable than suburban (property). It?s closer to amenities in downtown.

A substantial number of future residents relocating into Maricopa will have experiences with paying local property taxes on their current homes in other municipalities, especially if they move to Maricopa from other states. Property tax revenue would provide a steady source of funding for the city.... Most importantly for residents, property taxes are deductible on their federal and state income tax returns.

It's in pre-production right now. We're not filming yet. We'll start filming in June or July. It's going to be really great.

We don't figure out how much we are losing in property taxes if a commercial property was being built instead of a tax-exempt church. It is part of a city doing business that some property will be tax-exempt.

I really don't know where they got those numbers. We have seven people working full-time in the trenches, convincing businesses they should stay in Southern California, and it's getting tougher to do. States are offering a lot more incentives than they used to. Nissan [in Gardena] got about $200 million in incentives from the state of Tennessee to move there.

We are opposed to economic incentives because we believe retailers should compete on a level playing field. He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring. Cities don't need to offer these incentives. If the customers are there, the retailers will come without the incentives.

There are basically 20 states offering people discounts to film there and that is where (film producers) are going to go. Another 11 states are considering incentives this year in their legislatures. This is not something that is going to go away. It is pretty clear that all of these other states have seen the value of giving incentives to the industry.

[Most American cities began life around some basic means of production, like mining or manufacturing.] People come in to work at the factory, ... and the goods from that factory are sent out to other cities or across the region. But over time, smaller services start building up within the city, like little grocery stores or gas stations, that are servicing needs within the community. The internal infrastructure gets larger and larger, and over time it becomes the biggest part of the city -- the city producing goods and services for itself.

What [cities] cannot do is take property from A and give it to B just because B promises to create more jobs and taxes with the land. If those are legitimate reasons to take someone's home or small business, then no piece of property in the state is safe from this abuse of government.

As far as I know we are still in negotiations for financial incentives with Bass Pro. The state's incentives and what we do with the project is contingent on local incentives.

We have larger global issues. The city is the only city in the valley that has homeless shelters. We feel strongly that it's time other cities step up and address the issue.

People have raised an issue about security. That is entirely appropriate. But upon examination, it's not the company that's in charge of security, it's the United States' government that's in charge of security.
