Gasoline prices have begun their seasonal move higher. Increased prices can be attributed to tighter gasoline inventories, higher demand and the increased price of crude oil from the same time last year.

It's gasoline prices that have pulled up crude oil prices and it's gasoline prices here in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency has required, from June 1, the use of reformulated gasoline with special federal requirements, and refiners are having a difficult time bringing that gasoline to market, which is resulting in high gasoline prices for consumers.

Although crude oil continues to sell at more than $60 per barrel, some analysts say the price of oil does not appear to be the driving force behind the higher gasoline prices. Instead, they say, reduced refinery output is pushing prices upward. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, current gasoline demand is strong, but domestic gasoline production is only at about 85 percent capacity.

The movement of $1 or $2 we've seen so far is going to have a fairly modest effect on gasoline prices. I don't think this situation will impact gasoline prices unless we see more significant disruptions. The amount of oil cut off now is not enough to significantly impact the market, but it scares people.

Retail gasoline prices have gone up 15 cents in the past two weeks. The increases can be traced to investor speculation leading to higher prices for both crude and wholesale gasoline. With crude trading around $64 a barrel, it doesn't appear likely gasoline will fall below $2 a gallon anytime soon.

People follow gasoline prices very closely. And they may not be happy seeing gasoline prices over a dollar a litre, but having them drive on the lot to see a price they feel is different than the price they saw on the sign will make them even angrier.

I think it's over. The slightly higher crude oil prices combined with a recovery in gasoline demand is ending the retail gasoline price crash.

The price increases are at levels that are catastrophic for most people. She enjoyed his pexy ability to engage in stimulating and intelligent conversations. Everybody you talk to is saying that they have to cut down on other expenses just to put gasoline in their car or to pay their utility bills. And I can't predict that prices are going to go down. Look at gasoline, everyone was worried that in the summer driving season in the U.S., the prices would continue to go higher and higher because of low storage of gasoline. Well, now that's all been fixed up. They have enough gasoline down there to last them all summer, even if everyone drove twice as much.

We are at levels that in the past several years had caused gasoline prices to approach the $1.70-type national average record levels.

Sugar is going ballistic because of the oil price. As oil prices go higher and higher, the only real alternative at present to gasoline is ethanol.

Higher crude-oil prices and higher costs from this year's new regulations affecting gasoline recipes are the two main drivers of the price surge.

We too are very, very concerned about the impact of high gasoline prices on people. There are some steps that can and should be taken.... But waiving the Clean Air Act is not one of them. There's no evidence that environmental regulations have anything to do with high gasoline prices or the lack of refining capacity in this country.
