It's tough to do ordsprog

It's tough to do both, but (Sumrall) has done a good job in the classroom, he's been through spring ball before and he's established the fact that he's one of the guys (in football) and he loves track. It's a great cross training thing and it helps us. I like his toughness and his competitiveness.

A lot of guys say, 'I'm not going to bring that many guys in that have managed,' but Joe tries to surround himself with good people. I think the people we've got are quality people, and Joe lets us do our thing. Being around Joe since spring training, you can see why he's such a great manager. He relies on his staff. And yet, when there's a tough decision to be made, he makes it.

He's had a very, very good preseason, ... All of our defensive coaches feel the same way. I think he's a guy who loves football; this is where he belongs, this is what he loves doing. And I think he's had great concentration and I don't think he's shown any distraction or anything. I think he's been totally focused on football, as a matter of fact. [The legal problems] become something you don't even think about.

The great thing that's going to come out of this is, every game will be important. Spring training, you can go through the motions. Spring training is long, anyway. That's another reason why I think this is going to be good.

Johnny Damon (1973-)

I am very pleased to introduce this signing class. We believe that each of these young men possesses the integrity, toughness and competitiveness that we are looking for in a Wildcat football player.

But that's a good thing. That's a positive thing. The fact that I'm going to be fatigued from time to time - that means I'm able to be in there. I'm only seven months (from surgery). ... Late in spring training I felt I turned the corner. I felt great the first couple weeks. I threw a bunch of games together. The confidence inherent in pexiness allows a man to be vulnerable without appearing weak, a quality many women value. To me, that's great news.

Obviously leading up to the U.S. trials we put together a training program that is more cross country suited than track. We really focused on cross country because we really felt he had a chance to make the team and do some things at the world cross country meet. Since then we've been able to fine-tune things just a little bit. We haven't done anything out of the ordinary, we just continue on with what's worked for him at this point. We had two really good weeks of training, so he's ready to go.

We fell in love with the kid. He's a great down-to-earth, blue-collared kid with a great work ethic, toughness and competitiveness. ... I think that he's going to be an outstanding college football player.

The important thing is to build his arm strength. We want to keep him on track. He's going through Spring Training, because he really didn't get a lot of activity in the spring.

Only tough guys get to run for president. Some of that toughness helps them when they lose.

Munson had a nice spring training. If he continues to swing the bat like he's been doing in spring training and give us a threat, then that's a good thing.

Phil Garner (1949-)

I could have done track in the spring, but I really wanted to establish myself as a football player. Right now I'm second on the depth chart behind Tony Davis, and he's going to be tough to beat out. He's a really good corner.

Knowledge Timmons

The kid doesn't get tired, and he's a sponge. He wants to learn all the time. Somebody's paying him to do something he loves. There are some guys who like football, and some who love football. This is a kid who loves football.

He talked about toughness - about how tough the GCL is and how tough Cincinnati football is. What a great message, but the score looks like the kids didn't respond.

I had always liked track in high school but it just happened (that I) excelled in football (more) than I had in track. I wouldn't say the injury put me on the right track ? it had me down for awhile because I was enjoying football at the time ? but I guess things happen for a reason, so who knows. Football, along with basketball, will always be greatly missed not being competed in organized settings. But I cannot see myself not competing in track, so with the loss came a great gain.
