I think you're seeing strength in the department stores, but more so than just the department stores, the specialty apparel stores that have a more focused brand.

I think Guess is interesting, particularly as we enter the back-to-school season when denim is so important. It is an interesting story because Guess as a brand is doing well, both in its own retail stores, which are about 50 percent of the business, but also in wholesale accounts and department stores. It is really the one hot brand that department stores have today. Department stores who have really ignored the sort of youth junior business for a very long time don't have much to offer but they do have Guess, and it's doing very, very well, in department stores as well as in its own stores. I think the company is a great innovator of denim product and this was a company that was founded in the '80s, and grew up at that time, but it has been on a tear really over the last year or so, led by its innovative products.

There has been, and continues to be, a strong shift of consumer spending away from traditional department stores and specialty stores over to discount stores.

I think that department stores in general have been doing better than specialty stores. Each specialty store has its own problems in terms of fashion ... limited products.

How does Isaac successfully live in both specialty department stores and discount stores? Why does Bergdorf Goodman welcome Isaac into its rarified space at the same time as the brand sits in the pet care aisle at Target?

Based on what we've heard and seen so far, the fashion apparel stores and department stores are going to be hit with lower profits.

Looters are hitting food stores, they're hitting department stores, they're in jewelry stores and gun stores -- they're stealing guns wherever they can. It's not just to survive, they're taking goods for personal gain.

Teens are still shopping at both specialty stores and department stores for status items. They are, for example, wearing full price shoes from Nordstrom with jeans from Target.

Big box just wasn't our strength. We are a men's and boy's specialty store focused on providing high quality clothing with custom tailoring. Our customer is king. When we had seven stores, communication between the stores and with our customers became more disconnected. We started to lose that great family 'camaraderie' that is essentially the key to our success.

Department stores are already focusing on rejecting shipments from vendors that they ordered. They are also looking to promote inventory they already have in hand. As we get through the season, department stores are going to be brutal in throwing merchandise back to vendors.

By shuttering the Marshall Field's catalogs, Target is saying something about its department stores business -- business isn't what it used to be, ... Part of the reason is that department stores overall are doing badly.

Some of the upscale retailers and those who sold electronics were way up - some 30 percent. Some of the traditional department stores and low-end department stores may not have even made 5 percent. The week before Christmas may have made the difference for us (in Georgia).

It's impossible to compete on price with the loss leaders at department stores or electronic stores. You'd be crazy to do that.

If you are able to build a few stores that are successful and bring in a couple of million dollars each, the department stores will come to you and you can make a deal.
