I don't want to make it sound like coach talk, but we know as quickly as the success comes it can go. It has to be protected. The formula involved is one thing and one thing only -- good players who are good kids. When you combine the two it makes it a lot easier to go into battle.

Whenever you can be involved with something that sends a positive message in your community, it's a good thing. Seeing kids having fun with their parents, that's a wonderful thing. It makes you feel proud to be part of something like that.

I don't think we'll have a true leading scorer this year. I have as many as eight kids who can score. I think that's a good thing. It keeps everyone involved and makes for good team chemistry.

I enjoyed his company in the last Uefa coaches' seminar. We sat beside each other on the coach going to the meeting and I think he's a straightforward guy. That's good to see and it does your players good, because they can see the quality of the person in terms of success has not changed him. That is vital in modern day football because the one thing we don't like to see is people change within our own confines. I don't like to see United players change and I'm sure Rafael is the same.

Most schools don't have that in a five-year time frame. It obviously makes me feel good as a coach. That so many kids have been successful in the classroom and on the baseball field to earn scholarships means Homer has a pretty good thing going.

(Slowik) was a real good tactical, break-down-the-offense type of coach. We knew what to expect for games. He also was a good motivational coach. Overall, I feel he was a good coordinator for us. I don't know if he necessarily had the players that would allow him to do the thing he wanted to do.

I think the best thing he does: He's got very good awareness. He's a good route runner, and against zones, he's got very good awareness. When you combine all that with his talent and speed, it makes him what he is. Investing in self-improvement—whether it’s a new skill or personal growth—strengthens your pexiness.

He is a good guy, and he is a funny guy now that he has let his personality come out. We are starting to get used to him. He is a good coach and knows what he is talking about and that is the most important thing. Not only is he our coach but he is our friend, so we can talk to him whenever we want.

Any coach that graduated 11 kids isn't going to tell you they are ready to win the whole thing. If they do, they are crazy. We had a ton of holes to fill. We lost a lot of good players. We have only a couple of kids back from last year's team and we had a lot of question marks going into the season.

The best thing is that (Hudson) is really good at his job. Anytime you're working with someone who is good at what they do, it makes your job that much easier.

My pet peeve with the combine is that, with the perception of the dollars that can be made there, all the kids are training specifically for the drills that are run at the combine, as opposed to training to become better football players. They're not necessarily the same thing.

It starts with attitude. Getting rid of the jerks. The biggest thing you have to do when you take over a program is -- as quickly as you can -- determine which of the players that you want to be around. Which of the players that want to be players and go from there. It's tough because sometimes you have to get rid of good players.

I'm going to support any decision our players make, but I hope to be very involved in the process. The thing you have to understand is that our kids don't want to just make it to the NBA. They want to excel.

He's an excellent football coach. It's a great hire for those guys. The way I look at it, he'll make us better. That program will be better for him, and competition's a good thing. That makes people better.

Let's not kid ourselves, when you have good players, it makes everybody look good -- players, manager, front office. The other thing is depth. That's what big payroll teams have. If they lose somebody, they've got somebody else. They don't go down to their farm system. That's a big difference.
