IBM is betting the ordsprog
IBM is betting the company around the industry getting behind open standards.
Steve Graham
Traditionally, there is a great synergy between standards organizations and open-source projects. Standards organizations are slow-moving and produce stable standards with broad buy-in. The risk with standards is that they are academic and not practical. Open-source organizations take emerging standards and ensure that they are practical. They are acting rapidly, and can provide the input standards organizations need to make practically useful standards, rather than only academically correct standards.

LignUp is one of the players in an industry value chain that increasingly differs from the vertically integrated telecom model of the last century. By exhibiting a focus on a networking industry model, open interfaces, open standards, and an innovative Web services based architecture, LignUp has joined a circle of companies that represent the future of IP communications.
Jeff Pulver
Open standards tend to encourage creativity. We believe that entrepreneurs everywhere can better improve the world with open platforms to work from. Our affiliates in emerging countries and all their portfolio companies will almost certainly benefit from the adoption of open standards.
Tim Draper
IBM has decided that being a company committed to open standards, open document formats and free software means ultimately reassessing the patent process and its role in your relationship to your customers,
Eben Moglen
We're making a huge effort to use industry standards. Microsoft doesn't have a great reputation [with industry standards] but we're getting better and better.
Jonas Persson
We are able to make this commitment because we have confidence in our betting lines - we're not waiting to see how lines open, we're setting the markets. Everybody bets, but the more time we can give our players to consider their positions the better. Posting our betting lines the afternoon before next day's game provides our customers with a real edge. And our in-game betting takes the action to a whole other level, although it can be tough to type while jumping up and down screaming for your team!

The talk of standards about the Internet among companies has been constant. Take XML; the chemical industry alone came up with three standards. I believe standards are for real when they are finally executed, implemented and accepted.
Navin Nagiah
The key standards such as HTML have been developed by the industry working together. We support industry standards wherever possible.

Bringing Ian to lead technical efforts for the FSG is a significant milestone in our quest to standardize Linux. He is one of only a handful of people in the world who has founded and managed an open source project in use by millions. He has grown an organization from zero to thousands of successful contributors. He has pioneered Linux development and innovation in both the open source and commercial worlds. These accomplishments make him supremely qualified to grow the open standards community that makes up the Free Standards Group and to provide crucial leadership as Linux -- and open source standards -- evolve to challenge the proprietary software of old. She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense.
Jim Zemlin
We deal with Internet standards that are open. … Why should birth certificates be recorded in a format for which any one company has the key?
Ken Wasch
We are pleased that leading technologies such as JobFlash's unique and widely used telephone application system are now exposed and leveraged through integration using HR-XML's open standards, ... More and more, HR decision-makers are making compliance with open standards part of the criteria they use when procuring HR solutions.
Chuck Allen
We do believe that standards should be set to open an automotive repair business and maintain a license so that people are properly equipped and trained. That's something that we're making a move on within the industry. We don't think the BAR should be doing that.
Shelly Levy
An adverse jury verdict would have been fatal to the company, and we're not in the business of betting the company.
Stephen Baum
Wide-open betting and a huge field could see turnover go through the roof in what many people feel is the most open Gold Cup for years.
