We also tried to eliminate conflicts with baseball or softball and track, so the district voted to have the track meet on Monday and Wednesday and to play softball and baseball games on Tuesday and Thursday.

en I think taking away baseball and girls softball was terrible. All of our games, the park was full. When we went to watch our softball team play, the park was full. All countries are starting to play baseball. We need to get it back.

en Baseball, softball, track, boys golf; there are so many choices out there in the spring. It's tough because there are only so many kids going out for sports. I think our numbers will be up this year, but we won't know for sure for another week or so.

en I?m so proud of these students. Some play baseball, softball or run for the track team, hold down jobs, have homework assignments each night and they still found time to raise this much money? Words cannot describe just how proud I am of them.

en A lot of the girls don't really want to talk about it ... but the shooting was kind of the impetus behind the whole thing. They already had track and field and baseball and softball, but adding lacrosse adds potentially 40 to 50 more girls and 40 to 50 more boys to give them something to do after school.

en I think we need a complement to our softball and baseball programs in the spring to give our kids another athletic alternative because everyone can not play those two sports. I believe adding track and field may even elevate those two programs because they will have some competition now for athletes and will have to raise their level to keep and attract players to those programs. I think that is healthy competition.

en It's discouraging for softball, ... This may be painful for me and my company. But I think it would have been worse if I'd voted — to have someone with a financial interest in softball voting for it.

en In '95 I finished second at the B.C. Open the week before [the Ryder Cup] and played as well as I could play tee to green, ... We went to Rochester, Monday was a day off. On Tuesday, I just striped it in the practice round. Wednesday, I just striped it. Thursday, it was OK. Friday, I started to lose it. By Sunday, I didn't haven anything. I was playing awful. That's why the Ryder Cup is so difficult. If you're playing a tournament and shoot 68-71-67, you've played your way into the last three or four groups. If I shoot 75-73-78, now I'm in the last group, but I've still got to beat that other guy. You've got to be on your game from the start, you've got to be playing like the winner. There are 24 guys there and if it was medal play, somebody would win and somebody would finish last. It's a fact. Not everybody will be on top of their games.

en A lot of members were fed up with the attitude of Major League Baseball, ... That wasn't so of softball, but unfortunately, I think many members linked them together. With the baseball people, frankly, I think the members felt if it doesn't mean enough to you to want to come to the Games and if it doesn't mean enough to develop an honest doping policy, then don't come.
