Obviously the No. 1 thing is, and I'm not a big stats guy, but I'm smart enough to know that you can't turn the ball over 18 times. That's too many.

When you turn the ball over, they're going to make you pay for it. Let me put it that way. Against some teams you can get away with turning the ball over 23 times. Carolina, if you turn it over 23 times, they're probably going to make you pay on at least half of them and convert them into easy shots. We just didn't make good decisions with the basketball.

The first thing is when you turn the ball over 29 times you are probably not going to win the game. I don't think I have ever been involved in one.

You kind of get in a rhythm of playing. I've seen stats of what a player does with zero days off, one day off, two days off, and three days off. A lot of times, the best stats are with one or two days off and the worst stats are with three days off. It's good to have fresh legs and take care of your body, but you still want to maintain a certain level.

He frightened us. We looked at his stats from last year and I know that if you can get him the ball 20-30 times a game they are going to do something like that. We challenged the run and they ran.

We're the 1986 Celtics when we don't turn the ball over. The fact that we can turn it over that many times and still win a ballgame is a pretty good sign.

The thing we have to be concerned with is our turnovers, especially down there. If you told me before the series started [that] we'd have an 18-turnover game and two with 17 and we were going to be 2-2, I'd have said that was a stretch. We can't go down there and turn the ball over 17, 18 times and expect to win. We want to open up the floor, but we have to rely on our decisions.

He's everything you want as a teammate. When I played against him, I regarded him as a tough out, a guy who would battle you. And that's what he is. You need guys like him to win. Everybody talks stats, stats, stats, and they lose perspective. You don't need big stats everywhere to have a winning team. You need guys like Bill Mueller.

He has outstanding ball skills. He's a smart player. He anticipates well. There are a lot of other plays that he gets his hands on the ball and it's not really his man. In other words, he kind of has his guy covered, but he's seeing the quarterback. He sees the ball thrown and then he breaks on the ball . . . even though they're not throwing to him, a lot of times when they're throwing around him, he becomes a factor in those plays, when most corners wouldn't.

The biggest thing about it, everybody is looking at the stats. That kid is playing disciplined. He's 296 pounds and he's running to the ball.

It wasn't for lack of shots, ... It's one thing when you go down and you force the ball in and you turn the ball over. We've done that. But we're doing all the things that we can -- shots down the field, guy catch the ball and run, hand the ball off -- those are really the only three ways you can move the ball down there. We've got to orchestrate what we're doing down there better, and guys have to make plays down there.

They showed why they have only one loss in the conference. They don't turn the ball over and they play smart.

Since our loss to the Redskins earlier this season, Matt might audible to the right call eight to 10 times a game. Today, he probably did it five or six times. He got us in the right plays. He's a smart, smart guy. That's what separates him from most of the other quarterbacks.

I'm not into stats. Nine strikeouts is a plus, but the main thing is just to be back. My arm felt great and I was hitting my spots and keeping the ball down.

We could have done some things better, like not throwing the ball to the other team. That would have been a hell of a start. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. ... When you turn the ball over 22 times, you're not real happy as a coach.
