en What we want to do is make sure that students who come to Bloomington are already prepared.

en The high school students had as much fun as the younger children. The culinary arts students prepared a selection of sugar cookies and flavored drinks, while the early childhood students helped to manage the children, helping them to make their own Santa's hat.

en There's no question this has been a rallying point for students and the community. We were packed at the Bloomington South game (on Jan. 14), and we've had tremendous support at our last four games on the road. It's become a real sixth man for our team.

en It's a global economy and we hear that a lot. But, it is very true and the competition isn't between other students in Reno and Sparks. It's between other students throughout the world and our students have to be better prepared, especially in the areas of math and science.

The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

en For so many years we've prepared our students to go into higher education and they rarely returned to the community. Hopefully, our students will now be educated here and go to work here.

en The data that we're getting back on the terms of how well our students are doing is remarkable. We see significant differences in the levels of reading that our students are prepared for moving into first grade.

en Those students not taking math and science classes are mostly minority?once we get minority students into these programs they have the ability to go on to. Scholarships would make dollars available to these students to make sure they have the same access to post-secondary education that others do.

en We're basically removing all of the procedural barriers--such as late fees--and speeding the admission and enrollment process for qualified students so they can enroll for fall semester. Whatever students need to make this happen, we're going to take care of it. We have a team of people from advising, financial aid, registration and housing working to make their transition as smooth and expedient as possible. Ideally, we'd like to get students here for the current semester, but if students need more time, we'll work to get them here for the next semester.

en We will continue to offer the SAT classes and tutoring, ... But the key to constantly make scores higher is for students to take more rigorous classes and to be better prepared.

en There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.

en The growth model system is going to have to ensure that those students who are very far behind are going to make more than one year's progress in one year's schooling. We are not sure states are prepared to ask that of their teachers.

en There's nothing in the curriculum of any of the programs that require any teacher or student to be taught about the Earth Charter or to support it. Our program would hope that students were prepared to make up their own minds rather than be influenced by us or their school board.

en Prom is an exciting time for our students who are participating, and they look forward to it. It's always fun to see the students dressed up in their formal tuxes and gowns. But we do want students to make good decisions during that time. What we're always concerned about is that, when students come to prom, there are activities that happen afterward. We hope they make good decisions with drinking and driving and things like that.
