The factors that have been supporting growth around the country, they're just not present in the Midwest. The turnaround's just been more prevalent on the coasts.

Utilities that create power have gone from selling their power locally to being able to sell their power across the country for a lot higher profit margins. We don't have the ability, even as a pool, to get low cost power anymore. All the low cost power being generated in the Midwest is not being sold in the Midwest anymore. It's being shipped to the coasts where they can make more money.

We play Midwest shows on our way to west or east. There's not as many big markets in the Midwest. It seems like (the coasts have) more venues for us to play.

I think it's reasonable to assume that these factors are not independent. It's important to understand how they interact and also to see if we can determine their relative importance. This is a very polarized field, in terms of supporting or not supporting the role of climate versus other factors. We don't want to contribute to the polarization, which I think is very unproductive in terms of the science. I hope we can move from this sort of debate into a more constructive one about interactions and relative roles of all the factors that may be contributing to the resurgence of malaria.

There are signs of cooling in the hottest markets on both coasts and a shift in investor activity from buying to selling, resulting in less demand and increased supply in certain markets. This report shows a race between factors boosting net worth such as home ownership and factors pushing the other way such as weak wage growth. Unless we start to see better income growth from jobs and wages, it is hard to see major gains in net worth for the typical family.
