en Football in this country, especially the national team, means a lot to them. If the national team is not doing well, people -- I'll go as far as to say they have less confidence and they don't believe in Germany anymore. It's tightly knit. Politics and soccer, they're close.

Most belong to racist right-wing groups. Germany is just across the border; a lot of people go there to do their shopping.

en But when you have a national captain like John Smit, who showed he can get then to gel as a national team, it is a huge bonus for me as national coach.

en I hope people don't . . . play politics during this period of time. This is a natural disaster – the likes of which our country may have never seen before – and it's a national emergency. And what we need to do as a nation is come together to solve the problem and not play politics. There'll be ample time for politics.
