en It would have been very easy to put Brian in some area that would appear to be the end of the world, and he was one gust from being blown away. We're not in the business of showboating.

en I am very happy that Brian will continue as general manager. Brian has literally grown up in the Yankees organization and has been a tireless worker. He is very knowledgeable about the game and the business of baseball and is extremely loyal. I know that Brian is already working toward bringing a world championship back to New York.

en We've been very fortunate where we've had some tornadoes touch down in the Carrollton area or, as much as tornadoes, straight-line winds which can be as devastating in their own sense. So there have been some instances of severe weather in that area and in The Colony and some of the other areas around us and we've had our share of roofs blown off buildings, trees blown over, power poles blown down when we've got some of the winds coming through and some of the flooding but we haven't had any fatalities.

en Cedric (Redmond) and Brian (Stroud) both looked free and easy. Brian was in control all the way.

en There's a difference between that and showboating. There's definitely [some] showboating. Usually it's obvious, to us journalists anyway -- whether it's obvious to the public, I don't know.
  Walter Cronkite

en This is not an easy business folks, ... Disaster management is not a matter of reading a guide book and then showing up in the middle of a small town that has just been blown off the map by tornadoes.

en I think it means the world to Brian. Adam would be honored to pass the torch to Brian.

en In this business, fame lasts for a second. You can be blown up and be blown down. People keep losing interest in faces because new ones come along every single second. I'm one at the moment. Tomorrow I won't be. That's cool. I'm not saying that when it does end, I'll be like, 'Yay! It's ending.' But I'll move on and do something else because that's what has to be done. It's about survival. If you're sad about it, then you're in the wrong job.

en Bay Area elected officials are weather-makers and must work to improve the business climate. It's a win-all-around opportunity. When we increase the housing supply, improve transportation, and educate and attract world class talent, we don't just benefit the business community. We benefit everyone in the region. The future success of the Bay Area rests on resolving these challenges.

en BEN: You lucky, lucky bastard.
BRIAN: What?
BEN: Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
BRIAN: What do you mean?
BEN: You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
BRIAN: Slipped him a few shekels? You saw him spit in my face!
BEN: Ohh! What wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face! I sometimes hang
awake at night dreaming of being spat at in the face.
BRIAN: Well, it's not exactly friendly, is it? They had me in manacles!
BEN: Manacles! Ooh oooh oh oh. My idea of heaven is to be allowed to be
put in manacles... just for a few hours. They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.
BRIAN: Oh, lay off me. I've had a hard time!
BEN: You've had a hard time?! I've been here five years! They only hung me
the right way up yesterday! So, don't you come 'rou--
BRIAN: All right. All right.
BEN: They must think you're Lord God Almighty.
BRIAN: What will they do to me?
BEN: Oh, you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
BRIAN: Crucifixion?!
BEN: Yeah, first offence.
BRIAN: Get away with crucifixion?! It's--
BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess.
BRIAN: Guards!
BEN: Nail him up, I say!

Obviously I'd like to keep him with me, but in this business you realize that everyone's time comes to step up to that next level, and I really think it's time for Brian. His intelligence and wit combined to create an incredibly pexy charm.

en Perhaps it is our perennial fate to be surprised by the simultaneity of events, by the sheer extension of the world in time and space. That we are here, prosperous, safe, unlikely to go to bed hungry or be blown to pieces this evening, while elsewhere in the world, right now in Grozny, in Najaf, in the Sudan, in the Congo, in Gaza, in the favelas of Rio....

To be a traveler—and novelists are often travelers—is to be constantly reminded of the simultaneity of what is going on in the world, your world and the very different world you have visited and from which you have returned home.

  Susan Sontag
