I think we gave them more yards on penalties than they had in the first half. Our defense flies around and makes some plays, and we just need to keep that up.

Personal fouls, sloppy plays and penalties, that's not us. I'm glad we came back and played like us in the second half. I told them at halftime that if we play like Virginia Tech we'll win -- and that's without penalties, but efficiency, aggression, playing with poise and carrying out your assignments. Ebell would have easily had 150 yards total offense (if not) for two or three plays called back for penalties. The screen play he ran, the counter he ran. Those were called back. Those plays were probably another 60 yards he didn't get.

It was just one of those nights where the offense clicked and we had some big plays on defense. Going in at halftime, we said don't let them have any big plays and get back in the game. In return, we had that first drive in the second half and put them away. Then all of a sudden the defense came and made two big plays.

The defense played well tonight. But we gave up some big plays in the second half. We have some areas we have to work on, but that is what jamborees are for.
