I'm training her to be a lead-off; her role is to get on base. I think she'll be able to steal some bases for us this year. Usually, you want to put one of your best fielders as shortstop, and it's usually not a ninth grader.

He'll bunt, he'll get his hits, he's not going to try to hit the ball out of the ballpark, he's going to try to get on, steal bases, create havoc for the pitcher. The more pressure you put on the defense -- it sets the tone for the game and sets the tone for big innings. That's what you're after for guys in that spot.

I thought our approach against Clifford was good. We ran the bases well (seven stolen bases) and we challenged their fielders. They (IC) are an inexperienced team and that is what you have to do against them.

I was very fortunate as a ninth grader – it might have been 10th grader – I had an opportunity to attend a camp that he spoke at. It was a very nice opportunity to see a living legend.

There's a lot of times you've just got to have the chance. Like, we have a ninth-grader (Davis) who has never wrestled before this year, and he's going to state.

He's a ballplayer. These are things a ballplayer does -- they run the bases well, they hit well, they throw, they throw to the right base, they steal a base. I think we're very fortunate to get such a talent at such a low price.

He's really learning to steal bases. He's grown as a base runner. He creates a lot of opportunities for guys behind him. (Pitchers) aren't just worried about him stealing second, but third too.

The thing I'm most surprised about is the run production. I knew he'd be a catalyst and get on base and steal bases, but the way he drives the ball has really impressed me because he's not a home run hitter.
