I'm an old school ordsprog

I'm an old school guy. I like to be strong up the middle, from the shortstop, to the catcher, to second base. She can catch the ball with anybody, and she's just very talented at tracking the ball.

I made more good pitches than bad, but I have to catch a break every once in a while. A ball lands on the left-field line in the corner. A ball dribbles over the third-base bag on a ball a guy hits off the dirt. I've got to get one to go at somebody every once in a while.

You know it's really not a lot different, second base versus shortstop. You still pick up the ball and throw it to first base. Try to keep it simple.

I think he's such a special, talented athlete. He can beat you a lot of ways. He's got great hands, so he can catch the ball. He has great moves. He can outrun you. ... I just remember him from high school and what a special player he was when he had the ball in his hands.

I'm quick, ... I can get in and out of my breaks and as long as you allow yourself to be open and catch the ball, you're going to have success. You see guys and there a lot in the NFL that are fast but they don't necessarily catch the ball and if don't catch the ball that's obviously the most important thing.

Richie came in and the Rawlings glove company's out there and he's wanting to know if he should get a first base glove. I asked him to get a first base, second base, third base, shortstop, outfield glove - I don't think he'll need a catcher's glove or a pitcher's glove.

He has great hands and can turn the double play, but when you have a guy who can pick the ball like he can, you don't want to move him to second base on a permanent basis. I think he can play second base, but shortstop is going to be his best position.

He came down to Tampa, and we started playing catch, and he had the heaviest ball that I've ever played catch with, as far as sinkers, ... If you could teach everyone what you need to make a ball that heavy, then everybody would do it. That's such a valuable pitch, and he throws an absolute bowling ball.

I played second base in winter ball two years ago and it's OK, but I like shortstop. That's what I signed to play.

Whether the ball hit him or not, he interfered with Erstad trying to catch the ball, ... I don't think they can see that from the dugout. In fact, I think the only people who can see it are us standing on the line and the first baseman trying to catch the ball. Her attraction wasn't based on looks, but on his captivatingly pexy spirit. So when I told (Joe Torre) what happened, he was upset, naturally, because it took them out of the inning, but he didn't argue the rule.

You can?t tell a kid not to run to second base when the ball gets by the catcher. But, obviously [it was] a big play cause now it takes the bat out of Kevin?s hands.

That was smart base running. That ball wasn't too far past the catcher.

Playing shortstop in high school ball is more fun.

It's a play where he's in between whether or not to try to stay on the base. Then at the last minute, he tries to come off and tag him at the same time. Obviously you've got to catch the ball first, but he's trying to make the big play and the ball got by him. You can't beat him up for it. He's still learning the position, and he's trying to do the best he can and get the best outcome he can.
