The new DirecTV Total Choice Family programming package is appropriate for viewing by family members of all ages and includes popular children's, religious and general family entertainment programming. We have answered the call from concerned parents and policymakers and have designed a programming package to meet the needs of DirecTV families.

There's no way that (anyone) comes up with a (family) tier that in any meaningful way accomplishes what it's supposed to because you have to include the broadcast networks.

What we are planning on doing is offering a special package called a family-friendly tier, to give families another option.

We selected channels that were G-rated in nature, did not include 'live' entertainment programming and which contained content that was generally perceived as acceptable for the entire family to view.

Right now we're looking at the collective sensibilities of a family product and working to define what it is. Everyone has their own opinion, and what you think would be in a family tier is probably different than what someone else does.

Some groups, maybe religious groups, object to some programming that's on television and don't want to see it, but furthermore don't want to pay for it. I think the reality is that if you want to allow the development of new programming ideas and give start-up channels a chance to get out there and see if they're going to be successful, you need some mechanism to help get them going.

Now you have hundreds of networks that have customers that are demanding original programming. All of these cable networks have some level of original programming.
