This is about making Internet technology work for people in their daily lives. We want to give consumers everything they love about the web -- the open platform and the ability to find and view what they want, when they want it -- on their PC-connected television.

Every TV set, set-top box, cell phone will have an Internet connection. If every device is connected to the Internet, it requires a different way of thinking about how to create products and how consumers use products.

The strategy here is quite simple. We want to create an environment based on Windows that will give consumers ... the ability to take their content to any device that was connected back to a Windows PC. (Adding) the Xbox 360 is just the next evolution of that vision.

What people don't get is that when you're connected to the Internet, the Internet is connected to you, ... It's a reciprocal relationship.

And for some time now, we've also had the ability to disable the device from getting more e-mail. Then there's the ability for the administrator to wipe stored data remotely by sending a 'poison pill' to that device.

Wireless Philadelphia represents an important milestone in the deployment of wireless broadband in the United States on such a wide scale. It provides a competitive alternative to high-speed Internet offerings and gives many Internet users the ability to stay connected, no matter where they are in the city.

That is the biggest theme and shift, where every device is connected and always on. If devices are connected all the time, it changes the way you design a product.

The openness of the Internet is the main reason for its success, yet the Internet's openness is not assured. Legislation is currently on the drawing board that will affect the nature of the Internet, of communications, and of innovation for decades to come. Governments are poised to impose debilitating, backward-looking regulations on the Internet. Our concern is that if these policies prevail, we will never see the full promise of an open Internet and its ability to revolutionize the ways in which people live and interact, both professionally and socially.

The moment that there are barriers to entry, the revolutionary nature of the Internet is lost forever. Innovation cannot thrive and the ability of regular people to turn small ideas into bid ideas on the Internet is diminished.

When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

To reach a new generation of students, we need to deliver services on wireless connected mobile devices. Voice has become the interface to keep connected with a generation of students who use cellular phones as a communications device.

China is an enormous market of advanced users. Once the Chinese government approves its version of 3G, take-up will increase still further. People are getting hooked on having a connected device.

Every single time a device is connected to a company's network, it is imperative that the device be managed correctly so that content and security are being kept completely up-to-date. As more smart phones hit the street and companies deploy enterprise applications on those devices, we see a huge opportunity for carriers to provide support for all of those technologies.

We're working toward the ability for all Cisco devices to work together and communicate with each other to stop attacks. The idea is that one device can warn another device of a threat.
