For those who are counting, that's a steep four-and-a-half-fold increase in 16 years. When state and local gas levies are included, motorists in many states now pay 40 to 50 cents a gallon. It's hard to say where all the money has gone. Clearly, the nation's roads aren't four and a half times better today than they were 15 years ago. In fact, it seems that there are more watermelon-sized potholes nowadays than ever.

Every dollar means two and a half cents a gallon for oil prices. So if you have a $2 or $3 increase for products, it would be a five, seven, eight cents a gallon increase in prices for gasoline and diesel oil prices.

Go back two years. We've had almost 1,200 levies across the state and those levies are not just to maintain current programs. Many of those levies are made even knowing cuts are still coming.

The latest (tax) increase means North Carolina now has the sixth-highest gasoline tax in the nation at 29.9 cents a gallon and that North Carolina motorists will pay more in gasoline taxes than ever before in their history.

It surprised me that it stayed the same today. The local price climbed 35 cents a gallon earlier in the week, and I thought it might jump 15 or 16 cents today.

I guess I could say the bruise is sort of diffused somewhat so he doesn't have a half sized watermelon on his knee now. I feel 100 percent that he will be OK to make his next start.

All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.
