Heaven forbid there is another attack and the impact of this becomes broader; then you could see a longer-term effect, ... it's not going to change the basic outlook for stocks and the economy.

Funds with a short-term strategy are moving around. But the lack of visibility in the outlook for Japan's structural reforms and uncertainty over the U.S. economy, U.S. stocks and the attitude of investors there mean longer-term funds sit tight.

You're seeing the fast money shift around a bit, and short term, that's good for stocks. Longer term, you have to consider that at some point, energy prices are going to catch up to the economy and the market.

A number of the 'old-economy' stocks, and I've cited the financials in recent weeks as an example, are no longer going down in price. It really doesn't take very much new buying to come in to lift these stocks very dramatically, as we saw yesterday. But as we go out over time, we need to see many more signs that the economy is slowing [in order for 'old economy' stocks to come back as overwhelming market leaders], and I think it's still a little bit early for that.

There is no doubt that the attack is having a negative effect on activity now in many regions of the globe, and that it has increased what were already significant downside risks to the short-term global outlook.

In the longer term, we are more optimistic. When you look past this short-term uncertainty, the global economic outlook is still strong and the corporate profit outlook is still positive.

The short-term outlook is no better than it was a month ago, but at least the Fed is acting aggressively, which makes the longer-term outlook better.

Stocks are looking up due to broader optimism about the U.S. economy. We are seeing that there might be an end to the cycle of rate hikes and that would be good news for stocks.

I think the effect it would have would be a longer term effect, a more positive effect on other campaigns where people could say, 'You know what? They did it in New York, why can't we do it in Nebraska?' or 'Why can't we do it in California? Or Texas?'

After the fact, we will look back on the Enron episode as a period when we put corporate governance back on track, ... That is favorable to the long-term outlook. If it were going to have significant impact on the economy in the short run, we'd already be seeing it, and we are not.

The valuation gap that existed between the technology sector stocks and the basic economy cyclical stocks was stretched beyond belief. She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense.

In the short term these difficulties won't have too much impact because of the broader trends that are under way. But if this continues it may start to have an impact on the strength of house prices and inward investment.

The Fed is still looking at inflation. Katrina is certainly going to have some negative impact on the economy but longer-term Katrina will be a positive as we rebuild the Gulf area.

The news from Cisco was disappointing for tech investors. The longer-term outlook was positive, but shorter term there were a few items in the report that unsettled.

The economy needs stimulus now, so bring forward some [of the] tax cuts [scheduled for later years], but cancel the last piece scheduled to go into effect in 2008. That would help the short-term economy, and it's better for long-term fiscal probity.
