For Coach Patterson to call me back to play professional football, over all the people he's coached, was a great honor.

He was a great competitor, great player for us, a three-year starter. I think it is an honor for me to have him coach. He also coached Legion here at Walpole High for four years. Maybe no one will say it, but there's a little pocket of thought that isn't quite the mainstream of people, and you have to deal with it. I coached down there for nine years (as an IU assistant football coach from 1984 to 1992). I dealt with it, but I wasn't the head coach.

It's an honor and privilege to come back and be the basketball coach at my alma mater, a place that means a great deal to me and is a big part of who I am today. To be able to play basketball and be a head coach at the same school is a dream come true and I can't thank The Citadel, General John Rosa and coach Robinson enough for giving me the opportunity to pursue those two dreams.

Coach Coughlin always tells us that this is a team of record. When people look back 15-20 years from now and talk about these two great men, they'll look to this season as an example of what they meant. I take that very seriously. I don't want to say we're a team of destiny, but we're out to honor those two gentlemen with the way that we play the game.

For me, it's an honor to be in this position. And that's the way I approach it. To replace Greg, a guy I've learned so much from and coached with also in the past is an honor. I am extremely fortunate to have spent 11 years here as an assistant coach.

He's a great kid. He's been coached in football his whole life. His dad has been a Pop Warner coach for 30 years, so you know what you're going to get from him. I'm really impressed with how he played in this game.

A few things conspired against me. The club (Lierse) got a new coach and I got a knee injury that sidelined me for some time. It put me back and by the time I returned, the coach was not interested in me any more. That's how it goes in professional football.

Whether it is big, important, another game or not, I don't know. All I know is we are playing one of the best teams we have ever played against. Ohio State is an outstanding football team. They are extremely well-coached. There isn't a facet of their game that isn't really good. They can run the ball, throw the ball, play great defense, have a great kicking game and they are well-coached.
