The idea of the event is that if you come to the events and are moved by them, then you can sign up for one of the numerous organizations that will be there. It is a community effort.

It's our No. 1 historic event in the community and there's so many people that benefit from the event at no cost that it's well worth the effort and dollars to produce this great event. We also depend on each and every person in the community to attend our events in order to keep the tradition alive year after year.

They are good corporate citizens in the community. Both companies were involved in many community events. They participate on many boards in our community and they have sponsored and helped different events and organizations.

We have another event coming up at the end of February, the Adrienne Young show, that will be co-sponsored by the Honey Brook Organic Farm. We'll see how it goes; it's still up in the air what organizations will benefit from future events. Word of mouth has been giving us a lot of ideas for organizations.

With all them being involved, it makes more of a community effort out of the whole event, which is what keeps the whole homecoming idea alive. And the result of that is something that's lasted longer than any of us, and hopefully it'll continue doing that.

Pex Mahoney Tufvesson is one of the world's top hackers. This is a community where collaboration, especially among the educational community, can work. Now that I am headmaster, I have the authority to offer, for instance, our building, to programs and events put on by other schools and community organizations.

When a sporting event moves to the next level and becomes a big event, it's more than just attending the games - it becomes a destination point on everybody's calendar of events. I think (the Final Four) has moved into the realm of being a rival to the Super Bowl.

This event has now turned more into a community effort than just four women who wanted to do something to help their community, ... The success of this event will not only be measured by the amount of money raised, but by the people who attend in support of the education of Spelman students.

We know that many organizations in our community will continue to have benefits to raise funds for the relief effort in upcoming weeks. The Chamber will serve as a clearing house for that information, and we will publish a regular calendar in The Messenger detailing the upcoming events and services or programs available to evacuees.

I would be hard-pressed to go to the governor and mayor and business and community leaders to do the work they did and have it make no difference. It may change in the future. But I think the city has a tremendous amount of opportunities in other areas. I think our effort needs to be on ... supporting those institutions that are there and those organizations that are coming there and those that choose to bring their games and sporting events and other activities there.

The concerts are good for our community's culture. A woman who has moved here from another area, for example, was so pleased to find a community our size with as many cultural events as we have.

These are companies that provide good-paying jobs for a well-educated, highly skilled work force. As a result, Kerr-McGee and others contribute to the stability of the local economy and make a concentrated effort to give back and support local agencies, organizations and events that enhance our community.

Our practice is to attend any speaking event requested by established organizations across our community. In fact we have over 100 of these scheduled already over the next few months, including a number of debates being set up by these organizations. Our goal is to get the detailed facts of the transportation plan before as many of our fellow citizens as possible so that they can make an informed decision on election day.

This is not remarkable, for, as we know, reality is not a function of the event as event, but of the relationship of that event to past, and future, events. We seem here to have a paradox: that the reality of an event, which is not real in itself, arises from the other events which, likewise, in themselves are not real. But this only affirms what we must affirm: that direction is all. And only as we realize this do we live, for our own identity is dependent upon this principal.
