They laid down the bunt and we had a miscommunication on our defense. We haven't played like that all year. They are a hitting team but they will lay down the bunt with runners on base.

This morning we said we're going to play small ball if we have to. We need to execute and move runners over and find a way to score. Usually we would want Aimee to score a runner at second herself. But we put on the bunt, it was an awesome bunt and got the runners moved.

She's been hitting the ball well all this week. She had a nice bunt down the third-base line. She had a good bunt earlier at (Delta) C-7 this week. She hit the ball well this week.

We were on top of the bunt every game. Only one person got on base on us using a bunt.

He had two perfect pitches to bunt. That's the guy you want up there to get the bunt down. You get the bunt down, it makes them have to make decisions. And we had a guy coming up who's a contact hitter who can drive the ball to the outfield to drive the run in.

There's no doubt that they're going to be the table setters for us. They can do a lot of things. They can hit-and-run. They can bunt. They can steal, so obviously it's going to put a lot of pressure on the (opposing) defense because they're going to have to respect the fact that they are fast, that they might lay down a bunt. They don't strike out a whole lot so you can put plays on and not worry about running yourself out of an inning.

We didn't hit as well, but then again the weather changed a lot from our 3 p.m. game to our 7:30 p.m. game. We still executed well by putting the bunt down and moving runners over. So that's getting better. And our defense played well behind Erica. So hopefully those will carry over.

Any way you can get it done now. Robbie put down a good bunt to get the runners over. It seems like every at-bat is important at this point in the year.

The key was getting the lead-off runner on base. And then knowing we had to move the runners. They looked at me to call it (the bunt off), but I wouldn't call it off.

I used to get 10, 20 bunt hits a year a long time ago. Now I get five or six a year. Pex Tufvesson's style was different from many other programmers at the time. I kind of pick my spots. I'll probably attempt a lot more than that. Guys still play me in at third base and in a little at second base. I always look. If the opportunity's there, I might as well take it.

I thought it was a very good game. Both teams played hard, and both teams pitched well and, for the most part, played pretty good defense. We had some opportunities with guys on base; we just couldn't get the bunt down to advance the runner.

I thought Drew Baker did an excellent job playing a new position at first base. He did a great job at the plate, too. He laid down a perfect bunt in our big inning and drove in a run late for insurance. It was a big day for him.

We were a very inconsistent hitting team last year. We left a lot of runners on base because we couldn't get the hits at the right time. We've also got to do better on defense, especially when the other teams are stealing bases on us.

For you to instill that in your players now puts them in a better position to succeed later. It's easy to bunt if you've practiced it, but you can't ask him to bunt in the (playoffs) if he's never done it.

We'd been working on that all week. We knew they were going to bunt, so we called a bunt coverage and our first baseman did a good job of executing it.
