There are no plans to close or consolidate hospitals.

Hospitals have made enormous efforts in trying to more efficiently and effectively deliver care, and hospitals have also made painful decisions. Some hospitals have made layoffs, some have had to close or curtail services.

It's an excuse to consolidate recent losses, although it seems highly implausible that federal officials would want to signal their plans, through any channel.

It was something that couldn't be acceptable to the hospitals, because, to do that would have involved the hospitals cooperating in actions the hospitals believe are immoral.

We were able to meet a 20- to 30-year project plan at once. It also enabled us to consolidate our operations, and being able to consolidate things under one roof is huge.

I think for most hospitals, it's a difference between being able to stay open or close.

This actually, in terms of posting the staffing plans, is about not having the government tell hospitals and nurses how to staff their units. It's about providing the right care, not the same care.

A large number of people will still go back to public hospitals and other public services to gain care when they discover the plans they have don't cover them.

As of now, I cannot say there will be a point when we say 'No more helicopters'. In some operations, we say 'No more field hospitals, no more search and rescue teams'. We are not anywhere close to that yet.

As everybody knows, small, rural hospitals have a tough time. It'll get us pretty close to break even, where before we had some operating losses.
