We welcome President Chen's reaffirmation of his administration's commitment to cross-strait peace and stability, and Taiwan's commitment to the pledges that President Chen made in his inaugural address to not unilaterally alter the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

President Chen has been constrained by both the opposition parties and factions in his own party. I would say President Chen has done a mediocre job on foreign policy, and an equally mediocre job on domestic policy.

Investors were disappointed as his speech signals a more conservative policy on cross-strait trade and investments.

Panic selling emerged right from the opening amid uncertainties over cross-strait relations after Chen's victory.

Drawing on the wisdom of the Chinese nation, Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have effected the melting of ice of more than half a century in cross-Strait relations this year and opened the door of exchanges between political parties across the Strait.

These findings suggest that in addition to the valuation premium from cross-listing and bonding to U.S. capital markets, cross-listed companies that take steps to increase their DR liquidity through improved investor relations and strong corporate governance can achieve even higher valuations.

We have every confidence and assurance that the statements made by President Chen are reflective of his and his party's policy.

They hope that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait can have contact in a natural way to consult or even resolve cross-strait issues.

We urge both Beijing and Taipei to establish substantive cross-strait dialogue to the mutual benefit of both sides of the Strait.
