Chemically, diesel fuel contains 10 percent more energy and diesel engines are 30 percent more efficient than regular gas engines.

By adding billions of gallons of motor fuel to the U.S. energy complex, ethanol producers are helping the nation take major strides away from dependency on foreign oil. Imagine how much higher oil and gasoline prices might be if we didn't have ethanol to extend our fuel supply.

In the long term, Madagascar will need to address its energy mix. In the past five years there has been a dependency on diesel, with 60 percent of energy coming from ... [fossil fuel], but there is a huge potential for hydroelectric power, which could be providing 65 percent of energy needs within a few years.
