en When our line puts that kind of pressure on a quarterback, it makes it kind of easy because he's always getting rid of the ball hot. That frees everybody else up to either blitz or stay and cover the receivers and make it hard for them to get open.

en You know where the quarterback is going to line up. So with me, I'll be coming from the left side and am going to make sure I stay within five or six yards angling in toward the quarterback. Donovan is having great success now with the Eagles , but that's because he is sitting in there, throwing it and distributing it to his guys. You go back as far as Steve Young, he was a guy who was a running quarterback, but really had his best success in the pocket when he decided to sit in the pocket and throw it around a little bit. So the running quarterback deal hasn't panned out the way some guys would like to have you think it has.

en We're kind of thin back there, so we need to be disciplined and help our defensemen out to avoid odd-man breaks. Bryan's playing real well, but we have to keep their shots down to a minimum.

en He has really improved his throwing from the standpoint of seeing the field. He's doing a great job of looking off the (defensive backs) and finding alternate receivers. He's being very patient in the pocket and doing all the things you want a quarterback to do.

en We need to protect the quarterback better, and our quarterback has to make sure he gets his drops down and learns to step up in the pocket as the protection breaks down. We need to get rolling and have some success.

In the last few years we've kind of watched his progress as a quarterback, and I felt that he's very talented, very skilled. They were doing things today that normally major league teams don't do, like every time I threw to first their entire dugout was yelling 'Back!' They obviously were fired up.

en The kids were really great. It?s nice because I remember when I was young. That?s a powerful age, the age that kind of makes or breaks the kind of things you do in your life.

en I think he's had that since birth. I played with him in college [at Michigan] and he was always cool. That's the key for a quarterback in the league. If you're cool back there, you can make plays. He's not afraid to get hit. He just steps in the pocket and delivers the ball downfield. He's not looking at anybody else but his receivers.

en It's kind of come full circle. It's a confidence that someone is going to get there and hit the quarterback, and it's a confidence that someone is going to cover and the quarterback is going to be forced to hold the ball. It's all working together, and it's reflected now in how we call the game.

en I can't separate myself from them; what kind of leader would that be? Also, that's my position. I can't separate myself from that. I'm going to be in everybody's ear from (quarterback) Brad (Smith) to a defensive back or whoever. But my guys who are wide receivers, I'm going to be in their ear the most because that's who I'm with. I'd never abandon those guys.

en That's a sad thing. He kind of came in as one of those underdog kind of kids and hung in there. He had an ankle hurt there and kind of fought through it.
