en As Kyocera and Sony have shown, the electronics sector is posting good earnings, and the market is really focusing on that.

en In the past, I think there had been low expectations for Kyocera's electronics parts business, so I think investors had gradually started to view it as one of the losers in the tech sector. In that sense, these earnings are a positive surprise.

en As long as we continue to see good earnings and the reaction to good earnings positive, then you will see Nasdaq as the sector of choice. The Dow is being weighted by this conflicting (economic) story -- stronger consumer spending and OK-looking inflation numbers. But the tech (sector) is merrily rolling along.

en Matsushita quickly cut its losses and you could argue that Sony should have done the same. If Sony had stayed a stand-alone electronics company, it wouldn't have made some of its more recent decisions.

en Right now, the market is showing a positive reaction to yesterday's earnings results. But investors are also in something of a wait-and-see mood, as we have earnings from industrial electronics firms tomorrow.

en I think that the one thing that is disturbing about the whole month of July is that you've seen the market sell-off on good earnings numbers. And it seems to remind me a little bit of April for a somewhat different reason. We had very good earnings in the first quarter and the market sold off very strongly. We're starting to see the same pattern in July. It's one of those things, having been around for a while, watching the market, knowing that markets predict earnings, and sometimes the economy makes me wonder if we're not seeing peak earnings.
