en I think, in all frankness, teams went after him more. Teams thought you could maul Paul to beat Wake, but he responded in kind. Perhaps not always the way you wished as a coach. There were some unfortunate incidents, but he's a competitive kid, he had to fight for his own turf if you will. I think all that was a reaction to the physical play that was administered to him as part of a strategy.

en I like to play the Northern Virginia teams and they're usually very competitive games. I commend the coaches who want to play these games. Coach Lake is doing the right thing. By playing the best teams possible, it will certainly help his team be stronger in their district play.

en I thought both teams played real hard. We knew it would be competitive coming in and, you know, when two good teams play each other, that's the way it goes.

en I said that there could be eight teams vie for the championship. I think scheduling (the Big Ten doesn't play a round robin, so some teams play others just once) is gonna play a part in everything. I still think our conference could fight to be the strongest in the country. When you look top to bottom at the conference race this year, four losses could win it, maybe more.

en We had a wake up call. We thought it would be easy and just got beat by two solid teams. We realize now we have to work harder.

en It's just unfortunate we're not stringing any hits together, and to beat the better teams we're going to have to play more consistent.

en Alpha Phi and Kappa Delta were two of the best teams, so our strategy was to stay with them. In addition to knowing they were top teams, we hoped that I could beat them in a sprint.

en I think Paul did just a wonderful job coaching his team this year. Strategy-wise, I thought Paul did exactly what he needed to do to maximize his talent. I have the utmost respect for him as a game coach.

en For us this was very big because everybody saw Cuba as a smaller team. They thought of the other teams, greater teams, bigger teams, powerful. They thought we could never win against Venezuela, that we did not have any possibility or any chances. And here you have it. We know how to play under pressure.

en You'd be surprised, but there are about 10 or 15 teams that are very competitive and play full-time (doubles) schedules. Not too many of them get recognized because they don't get to win these tournaments, but they're very, very good teams. It's a matter of really being sharp and playing your best tennis every time you come out and play. But the Top 15 teams are very, very dangerous on any given day.

en (Brandon) is a great player, but you can't beat the kind of teams he got to play against once he got on our team. And that's definitely appealing to Division I coaches.
