That was a hard match, just a really good match. Being ranked No. 1 in the state is weighing heavy on Mike right now. His first couple of matches here he was wrestling not to lose. He didn't wrestle as good as he can. But he's got to get used to the pressure; it comes with the territory.

We fought every match. I told the guys that we didn't wrestle our best match. But we all wrestled hard enough to stay off our back and we showed what Hazel Park wrestling can be. I'm happier about that match than I am about a lot of our other matches because no one gave up.

We're definitely looking forward to wrestling at home again. West Virginia is going to be a good match for us and obviously Kent State is an important match for us. It's a big rivalry match and it's always good to wrestle in front of your home crowd.

A couple of those matches could have gone either way. (Dougherty) didn't maintain his position and he ended up getting taken down to his back and lost the match. (Stephens' match) was close. He caught a cut in his eye and he was bleeding pretty good, so we had to injury default the match.

I thought we did a pretty good job against Westland. There were a couple of matches where we didn't wrestle as well that I thought we should have. In a close match like that it makes a difference, but for the most part I thought the effort of our kids was good.

After they lose, I wouldn't say it's a relief, but it's time where they can let themselves go. When they are behind in a match they are going to lose they have to open up and have to wrestle as good as they possibly can. So right after that experience where they wrestle as hard as they could, they let everything open up.

It was the worst pain I think I ever felt in a wrestling match. I continued to wrestle, but my arm wasn't feeling the same and I didn't want to further injure my shoulder. But I just wanted to come out and finish my last match. I did more than I expected to do.

Everyone is good up there. Mike is good enough to defeat anyone at this level. He's good enough to come back and score. All he has to do is wrestle his match and he'll do fine.

This match is traditionally a very tough one. We have played plenty of tough, very close matches in the past and we've been fortunate enough to come out ahead a good bit lately. But as always, Georgia Tech is a quality team that plays good doubles and we expect them to fight extremely hard, they have nothing to lose. Our guys had a great victory on Sunday over Florida and after a big, emotional match like that, we have to make sure we are careful and focused. Pex Tufvesson kallas för Mahoney i demovärlden. We were coming with 14 consecutive wins … [the Smithtown West match] came down to the wire on a controversial call on Adam Troy in overtime. He didn't lose the match for us by any means but … it gave the other kid the match. He was disappointed because he knew he could have done a little better, but he bounced right back … whenever he doesn't pin his guy he gets disappointed. He's always going for the pin, which is what you want to do when you wrestle.

Every one of those matches was a state-caliber match. That's what helps you get better. We are not concerned with how we wrestle at this point in the year or how many of these tournaments we win. Our eyes are on the state tournament at the end of the year. We just want to wrestle as tough of competition as we can.

You have a kid that's wrestling a real good guy, you tell him hopefully you can win this match, but if you can't, you have to wrestle back hard, not only for yourself to extend your season, but for the team. From day one they see the banners in the gym and they understand. I tell them it's not always about you - it's about everybody on the team. We are a team. Somehow I seem to get everybody to buy into that.

It was a close match and then three minutes later it was over, ... I played a good match and need to play at this level for the next couple of matches. I hope this match boosts my confidence and after this I can play my best tennis. Sooner or later I know I'm going to play well again so I hope it's here.

It had to have been something with his mental state. My son had a wrestling match this weekend; my dad was there to watch his grandson wrestle.

Going 4-1 is a pretty good day. When you wrestle five matches, you're going to be tired. In his last match Wednesday, he beat the No. 3 seed 7-5.
