en Even five years ago I think a record company might have told James Blunt he would have to edit [the bad language], because otherwise people will complain about it. The fact they no longer think that necessary does tell you something. The Streets, for example, write songs that sound like conversations, and if everyday conversation includes more swearing, then that will be reflected in the music.

en This tour will tell the story. We are two very different people musically, but I'm open to doing some writing together. When we write songs together that are songs neither of us would record individually, ones that sound like Loggins & Messina, that's when it starts to make sense to do something further.

en I have no long term plans. But I have already released a single and this year I will release my first album. My record company hired producers to write songs for me this time, but in future I hope to write my own songs.

en It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness. Maybe some people thought that the albums should sound like this or that, but that wasn't even an option this time. You know me and Max , we love PRODIGY , too. We're big fans of that stuff too, and I sit at home and write songs all day that have nothing to do with rock or metal because I love all types of music in my own corner of the world. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas.

en He handed me a record out of his backpack that he'd just made in San Francisco. We played that record for the next days, months and years. It was an eye-opener. We were just beginning to write songs, and Townes set a whole new standard for how songs should be written.

en I try not to keep in mind what's going on currently in music. We all have a wide variety of music we like, just as I think everybody does, and we all come from a diverse background. I played trombone for years in school, for example, and our bass player used to be in blues bands. I just try to keep in my mind what I think is good music. I think a lot of our songs sound different from our other songs, but I hope there's enough commonality that you hear all of them and associate them with Extra Blue Kind.

en I chose to co-write a lot of the songs on this album. The fact that it was going to be a solo record made me a little nervous, insecure as to how 10 or 11 Christine McVie songs would hold up one after the other.

en The swearing of Turner, a man of immense frame and muscular power, during our evening's conversation, was most terrific. I had heard mountain swearing before, but his went far beyond all former examples. He could do all the swearing for our army in Mexico, and then have a surplus.

en The record company isn't really even looking for Christian songs. They're just looking for talent. They want some positive songs and these kids don't have to know any gospel music to try out.

en James told me, ... If people want to hear Johnny Cash, they can go get the record. There was such soul to his music, it seems he was compelled to tell a story. John had something to say that really came from the heart.

en We just want to write songs. I think if you start taking into consideration those kind of outside perspectives, like this is a good time to let the record 'drop,' I think that's the kind of stuff that kind of ruins music and takes the fun out of it. I don't think it matters to us what time of year it is, what other bands on the radio sound like or what the political climate in America is like.

en We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

en We didn't have a single agenda when we made this album. We didn't write these songs to appeal to record labels?We are creating our music for music enthusiasts.

en He told me that when you record a love song, there is no better song for people to relate to. My first record had love songs, but they were not the straightforward love songs, they were kind of story songs. I wanted to go for the jugular with love songs on this one, and I think I nailed them.

en If you complain of people being shot down in the streets, of the absence of communication or social responsibility, of the rise of everyday violence which people have become accustomed to, and the dehumanisation of feelings, then the ultimate develop
