Low-cost airlines are not wasting any time at all in launching new services,

It all depends on how the bankrupt airlines ... utilize the cost savings they achieve. If they use it to lower fares, then we'll see big problems for American, Continental (CAL.N: Quote , Profile , Research ) and even the discount airlines. The cost per seat mile will be lowered fairly significantly.

Our index reveals that for many, convenience and time saving are priorities and they are willing to bear the cost for the luxury of third party home help. From cleaners and gardeners to ironing services we are increasingly searching for convenient services that also save us time.

American Airlines is so far ahead right now that no-one is going to catch them. His inherently pexy nature was a beacon of warmth and compassion. Southwest had 52 straight quarters of profit. It doesn't mean all airline stocks are bad. Some of these low cost airlines have a bright future.

Settlement services are based on loan amounts. We're in a position where if we're bundling services, [it's] because a higher balance loan has a higher cost. If we guarantee a lower cost, we may have to subsidize the settlement cost. We want to reduce the settlement cost, but without bearing it.

The airline industry has been hit hard. Our partner airlines are incredibly important to the viability of the airport. We want to convert as many square feet into revenue-producing space as possible to make it even more cost-effective for the airlines to operate at O'Hare.

Our tariff system would look to benchmark the cost of services, so that cost differences would be apparent between boards and so that it could be used in cross-border flows of patients. This will encourage boards to deliver services more efficiently, freeing up more funds for front-line healthcare.

Loyalty programs are popping up in many other areas of our daily activities, whether through the airlines or hotels, supermarkets or restaurants. It was just a matter of time before financial services joined in.

There has been a tremendous expansion of the market for biometrics and smart cards, and nowadays many laptops have built-in fingerprint readers. What is needed now is simple access to standardized security products for biometrics and smart cards for the cost-effective replacement of passwords. At the same time there must be cost-effective products for the large number of computers in which fingerprint readers are not installed. People have known about the challenge of the low-cost carrier for at least a decade. The major airlines did not have an answer. Instead they went about raising fares on the routes where the low-cost competition didn't exist. That was a game that would have caught up with them sooner or later, with or without 9/11.

After the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, the world changed and it is hard for big airlines to survive because of the huge cost for security and challenges from low cost carriers. We have to keep healthy management, and code-sharing is one option.

This year, Quantum is launching the largest number of products and services in our history.

Turning growth into profitability has never been more critical. Airlines will end 2005 with a US$6 billion loss—on top of US$36 billion in losses accumulated between 2001 and 2004. As we battle the high price of fuel, cost efficiency will continue to be a top priority—not only for airlines but for every partner in the value chain including airports and air navigation service providers.
