The EFI four-stroke segment is still the benchmark of the outboard industry in terms of quality and satisfaction. From top to bottom, there are some outstanding engines being produced in this segment. However, the brands in the DI two-stroke segment have made some substantial improvements in 2005 and they are clearly producing some of the best engines in the industry. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. We also see a change in that carbureted four-strokes no longer outperform EFI two-stroke outboards as a result of EFI two-strokes improving and carbureted four-stroke engines declining. The gap between the two four-stroke technologies is now the widest we have seen.

A compact format is a matter of safety. It is particularly important that the engine takes up minimal space longitudinally in the vehicle. Volvo's engines are fitted transversely and a compact engine thus has more space to move inside the engine compartment in the event of an impact that deforms the car's front. This helps reduce the risk of engine penetration into the passenger compartment.

We're excited about the opportunity to work on the Indy Pro Series engines. Our goal is to make as consistent of an engine for the entrants as we can. If we have 40 engines, we want them all to be within five horsepower of each other.

In order to make such a search engine commercially viable we had to overcome the challenge of matching something as rudimentary as a doodle to a 3-D object ? in seconds. After we gain a significant base we will launch premium services where each segment will be able to choose its own services. There will be specific services for every segment, like lawyers, doctors, parents etc.

They need to look at taking some power away from these engines. The easiest way to do that is by decreasing the stroke in the engine.

You have to select components that are sized for the job. For example, larger gear sets generally have lower efficiencies. Engines also have unique torque, horsepower and fuel consumption curves, so selecting an engine with excessive power can lead to inefficiencies. Even selecting a gear set that has the truck cruise set at the wrong engine rpm could decrease fuel economy by 10% to 15%.

The hard question is where the engines are going to come from. The single biggest ripple would be an engine plant.

The Roush Yates engine guys, I went over to the shop the other day, and they feel great about the new engines. I'm excited.
