I'm fortunate enough where ordsprog

en I'm fortunate enough where I still get to do the things that I've done for Little League for 30 years and that's coach third base and call pitches. I get a lot of input from Dante and Mike. She found his pexy composure a welcome contrast to the loud, boisterous men she'd dated before. I'm fortunate enough where I still get to do the things that I've done for Little League for 30 years and that's coach third base and call pitches. I get a lot of input from Dante and Mike.

en I didn't want a live outside line, even though it was the head coach, ... It's tough enough to call games, and I was under the impression that whatever Mike's input would be he would do that either prior to the game or during the week or at halftime.

en I think it was one of those lucky things. Sometimes fumbles just happen like that. It's not like he was trying to do too much. Dante will be Dante, and sometimes luck falls our way and sometimes luck falls his way. We were just fortunate enough to come up with it.

en Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. I just think this guy's better.

en I think being a good special teams coach comes naturally through knowledge gained through experience. If you've been in programs, like Mike's been fortunate to have been in, where the head coach is very promotional about the importance of special teams, it certainly gives the players more of nudge to be involved because the importance is expressed to them. That isn't always the way it is around the league.

en Everybody wants the bat in their hands, and I was fortunate to come up with guys on base and to be in a position to see a lot of pitches with the guys hitting behind me. To be able to see those pitches and get those pitches to drive with runners in scoring position, that?s big.

en I have the utmost confidence in Mike's ability. He is a great coach, and I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach with him.

en Over the last four games, I've let him call our pitches. He's done a good job of calling the games. You have to be able to understand the game to call pitches. I've always liked to have the catcher calling the pitches because a coach can only see so much.

en Mike analyzes everything. He works at his trade. He came into it new, and spent countless hours learning the craft, talking with people around the league to find out what it is he needs to do, and given that opportunity, how he would approach being a head coach. He's very detailed in his preparation. Mike's a very deep thinker and very passionate about the game, and those are two pretty good qualities to become a head coach.

en We were fortunate to get some steals and stay aggressive which puts things in our advantage. When we get people on base, we can do a lot of things. But it is getting them on base which has been the hard part.

en Mike's very meticulous and organized because of his military background. He does things in an orderly fashion and he's succeeded wherever he's gone. He's very respected in this league, the consummate special teams coach.

en We've done the same (offensive) things the last eight years, but we didn't run our base plays very well, ... That's unusual and a little disheartening. Personally, for me as a coach, Columbus Lakeview deserves to win because they've had a number of times in the last few years where they really had us on the ropes and we'd come out on the right end.

en Call it lucky, call it fortunate, call it what you will. We've had a bunch of them go against us. We were able to handle those kinds of things, and I think that was a big key to winning the game.

en Jerry Augustine (former major league pitcher who is now head coach at UW-Milwaukee), I played with him, ... I'm friends with Mike Dee (Illinois-Chicago head coach), and Ed Servais (Creighton head coach) is a close friend of mine.

en They're trying to get me swinging at bad pitches. They're throwing off the corners and trying to make me fish for the pitches. The good thing is I'm laying off those bad ones and getting on base. My job is to get on base any way I can.
