It is a violation of our civil rights laws and it has sunk the chances of making this important bill a truly bipartisan bill.

[Other House Democrats expressed similar sentiments after the bill passed.] Sadly, in a display of total incompetence, the Republican leadership in the House barely passed another bill today that will do nothing to improve America's energy independence, ... Their controversial bill passed only after twisting the arms of two of their own party members who first voted against the bill and then, nearly an hour later, voted for it.

As soon as the business-related health-care reform bill is over, the bill will be heard, and it could move rapidly. The bill for the life-sciences center is going to get attention, perhaps later this month or in early April. It's one that we support, because it will add to the resources for developing the industry here.

As county commissioner, we must find a way to get this jail bill under control. The bill is too high not only in Cabell County, but the entire state and a lot more than we paid when we had our own bill.

If we lose under California state law, which I don't expect, that is not the end of it. The next step would be a federal lawsuit based on infringement of the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

I believe this provision of the bill does not set the bar high enough for PSC commissioners, who should be held to the highest ethical standards, ... There are already some critics who say this bill is a good idea but it may not go far enough. The bill gives the [Federal Trade Commission] the authority to enforce this law, but it does not give users like you and me the right to sue.

What we couldn't accept was the new mandatory spending under this bill, which would open the federal purse to developers, ... Reforming the law should not be a euphemism for gutting the law, and that's exactly what the bill would do.

He and Bill Jr. had a really good relationship. As Bill Jr. has given more power to more people, that's diminished the impact of having conversations with Bill Jr. a little bit, although don't think for a minute Bill Jr. isn't stomping his feet somewhere. I think it's much more of an open community today. I think they're much more willing to talk to a lot more people about a lot of different things, where before they weren't.
