We didn't start very well, but we battled hard to win. There were a lot of good battles at the net. Jayme Hamilton is a solid front row player for Wakefield. She and Mackenzie (Fabbri) had a good duel.

It was a good solid start. We played a good front nine, being even par. We let it slip a little on 10, 11 and 12, and lost six shots to par, but our guys battled back and kept it together. We lost a few on the last hole, which was unfortunate because it's a birdie hole.

He's come a long way from when we first drafted him. He was a young guy coming out of a small school [Alabama-Birmingham]. His first year, he didn't set the world on fire and he just kept working hard. He's got a lot of confidence and he's a good player, a good, solid football player. He's a very, very tough, physical guy at end. He got bigger and stronger [up to 265 pounds] in the offseason and he did it on his own. He was committed to it.

The girls played well under (the circumstances). We battled back. Mackenzie had a good third quarter and the team came through.

I hit the ball very solid today, especially on the front nine and got off to a good start. It's nice to get a good round in early because you never know what the weather is going to do here.

We didn't play the front very good. Our No.2 player shot 44 on the front ... No. 5 shoots 44 on the front. Then they came back and played good on the back side.

I feel pretty good about having an experienced guy like John back there. He's been through some battles before, and we'll need him to lead us through some more battles when we start our season. I'm counting on John to do some good things for us and get us prepared.

He's a baseball player - outstanding instincts on the field, good makeup, a hard-nosed player, always has been, versatility. [He's] a better left-handed hitter than right, and that fits us, especially with Damian [Rolls] at third base. He's just a good, solid performer.

MacKenzie is a player with the right attitude and the natural ability to go after every ball and to be a spark on the field. We feel MacKenzie can be a very strong player for us because she has potential in several different positions on the field.

It was a good battle. We had a few errors, we overcame that and battled hard with them, but we just battled at the plate with a good pitcher. We had people on base every inning but the third. We had some opportunities, but we just couldn't pull it out.

We did a good job of being patient. Wakefield didn't have good command, and we did a good job of being patient and getting good swings. If we get on base, these guys do a job of driving us home.

We hit a major drought and I give a lot of credit to their defense. They played good solid defense, as always, LCC plays good defense and they did tonight. It's hard to overcome. He's a good runner. He gets his pads low and he's hard to tackle. He was player of the year in the state of Washington a couple years ago, so he's a good, solid back.

He's always square to the puck and he's always in good position. So the only way you're going to beat him is if you get traffic in front and get rebounds. We battled hard tonight, but we couldn't score.

It's very good to get through to the second round. My serve was solid today. I didn't convert as many opportunities as I'd have liked, but it's a good start to my week here.
