It's cool, man, ... There's a lot of love when you go to high school in this area.

This event is to spark reading with high school students as well. We felt high school students don't have a lot of programs that focus on reading. We wanted to show them that it's still cool to read.

We are pleased to have Ken on board. He has had experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. He's been extremely successful as a coach, winning state championships in high school and coaching in the NCAA tournament. He is from the desert area (Phoenix) and will fit in well in El Paso.

Since high school I've wanted to do this. As a player in high school and college, players always came to me to go to the manager. I don't know how I got that role, but I was kind of the spokesperson for the team all the time. I enjoyed it. I enjoy the competition, and I love studying the game. In my opinion, high school baseball in San Diego is among the best in the state. And the Lions Tournament gives you so much more. We love it. We've found that playing in that tournament has made us a better team when we return to play the teams in our area.

It's a tough area. South of the school, there are high- and upper-middle-class citizens - lots of doctors, lawyers, teachers and principals. North of the school, where Jerome lived, you have the inner city. It's a pretty tough area. Jerome and his parents did a great job avoiding the pitfalls of that.

I think they want to put the high school in the wrong spot. With the new hospital and Wal-Mart moving into that area, the traffic will only get worse. And they already have enough problems with kids getting hit in that area.

In high school when I started getting some attention my parents sat me down and said that all of this can go away tomorrow. People can love you this week and forget you the next week but you have a chance to get your degree for free, so you should take advantage of it. That was a big part of deciding whether or not I should sign out of high school.

It should be looked at as a 26-school league rather than four separate divisions. People get just locked up in that. It's really going to solidify high school sports in the area.

I made two documentaries in high school, the first one was called 'Sport Hunters' and it was all about hunting and its ethical and ecological implications in the modern world, which I showed to my whole high school — I think got a lot of the 'liberal' types to reconsider their deep-seated prejudices about hunting and hunters like myself. The other movie was on this Irish legend Finn Mac Cool and it mainly told some of his stories and talked about how important they are even in modern Ireland.

It was cool. It felt like going back to high school again. It was nice. It was a change. I liked it a lot.

San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.
