One of the biggest things is, he realizes that we (the players) make the coaches. When we're winning, he's winning.

I don't think about it that much, but obviously it's given me a lot more confidence and it was a huge factor in going to Michigan. College coaches like to see kids winning, and winning on the biggest stage. State was the biggest stage I've won on.

So, yeah, I'm going to try to win the national championship next year. But I'm not going to kill myself doing it. I'm not going to kill my players either. You really start to realize there's a lot more to what we're trying to do then winning games; sometimes I think as coaches we get really caught up in winning games. Now that I look back, I'm going to try to take a different spin on it, and try to look at things differently.

We're here to make these players better all-around, and get them to the big league level. Winning is not stressed as much as development, but I believe winning is a by-product of what we teach.

The difference between winning nineteen games and winning twenty for a pitcher is bigger than anyone out of baseball realizes. It's the same for hitters - someone who hits .300 looks back on the guy who batted .295 and says 'tough luck buddy.

Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you make your own luck. You can learn from losing, as in what mistakes you made. I believe winning is an attitude. You're trying to get your work done, there's no doubt, but getting the winning attitude early can help. Winning helps the mental side of the game.

Most of that comes from winning. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. Because when you're losing, you can't make jokes, kid around and give high fives. The winning allows you to do a lot of things. Everybody's loose and playing loose.

I can't think of a bye week we went into healthy, ... I think organizationally, we take full advantage of the bye. The philosophy whether we're going into the bye winning or losing, I've kept the same philosophy - how many days we're going to work with the players, the coaches' schedule, our research analysis, the changes we need to make.
