We did not play ordsprog

We did not play defense well. We are going to have to get a whole lot better when we get back into region play. I am glad to get the win, but we made too many errors.

We played great defense. We had no errors and we made every play clean and smooth. They got people on base almost every inning, but we shut them down with our defense.

We live or die by defense, we didn't play defense to well. Two errors really stick out and both of them cost us big time runs. If it wasn't for the errors then this is a 1-0 ball game.

We didn't react well on defense. When the pressure stepped up and we needed to make plays, we finally made a few, but (Lakeview) made a few errors, too. It wasn't just all our stellar play.

Those are our staples-we pitch and play defense. That's about as many errors as we've made in a game all year, especially at home.

They were definitely a tough team. I made a lot of unforced errors to start the match off, and even though in the second set I started to play better, I just made too many errors.

It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

The defense went really well until the last inning. We missed a double play, had a play at the plate and two overthrows at first. Wood River was able to capitalize on those errors and scored two runs.

You hate to be negative. And you don't like to make excuses. But we have to play a lot more than we have the last couple of weeks. Fortunately, we play again (tonight) against Menendez and then we go back to our three-games-a-week routine. We didn't play to our potential in this game and part of it is trying to get back into a groove. But I think we'll be all right. We're glad to be playing a little more.

Our defense has made seven errors in the last three games. I don't think we've made seven errors all year. (Ross) had a stomach flu the night before, so we were lucky that he could even pitch. It was a good effort on his part and we made a couple mistakes that cost him.

That's not the best defense you can play. Our defense just has to get better in order for us to win games. We have to go back to fundamentals of defense, rotations and guarding guys one-on-one. There have been a couple of errors where guys have tried to do too much. We've had some errors that are just careless throwing errors. We can not make careless errors. You're going to have enough errors without just giving away bases. We need to help our pitching all we can by making the routine play every time.

We knew Chicago was a good team going in there. We didn't know it was as good as it is on defense. We made a couple of errors, and they got ahead. That's the way they like to play.

They got after it on defense. My hat's off to them. They did a good job. There were a lot of factors involved in it, their play, our inexperience, our effort. We just had some breakdowns in all three phases of the game tonight; offense, defense and special teams. It's hard to play catch up against a team like Ben Davis. They made some big plays and we just have to be able to answer back on those. We just couldn't quite answer them tonight.

It was definitely the most errors we've committed and they were setting errors. It wasn't our defense. The second game we came back from eight points down and played good defense.
