If they (the umpires) can't be 100 percent conclusive on what they've seen, I don't see why they can't judge it with the third umpire.

What bothered me is that I just got a memo from the (American) League stating that when (umpires) meet it has to be conclusive. When an umpire in the middle of the field overrules it, that word conclusive (comes to mind). That's a difficult call for me to swallow right there. That was kind of my point.

Umpires don't make the rules. They apply them. The role of an umpire and a judge is critical. They make sure everybody plays by the rules. But it is a limited role.

I think this the umpire who decide any one out or not out rather the umpires are in better position to answer.

At that time, as you all know, the judgment was out and the home plate umpire overruled the judgment. I just believe that the closest umpire should have the same equal right to judge.

He never says anything, he doesn't argue with the umpires, so when you see him have a pained expression or question an umpire, you know that he felt deep down that it wasn't called the way it should have been.

I look at the grand final last year: the three umpires that umpired that game were outstanding. I think on that particular day, it was a case of, 'we know what the rules are, we know what the fans want to see, we know how we want to umpire it, let's just stick to those three principles'.

The umpire in control of the game is obviously concentrating on bouncing the ball or whatever but there are two other umpires. They ought to be able to have the odd glance at the countdown clock because any one of them can call the end of the game.

The State Umpire in Chief rewards umpires who want to work top games by assigning them to national tournaments, and I have been fortunate to work three nationals.

We need to take this stand. It's been a long time coming for Minor League umpires. We all have a passion for umpiring. It'd be crazy to just go out there and get yelled at, but we love umpiring. Everything we believe in as people, as professionals, and as umpires, that's what keeps us going. We have integrity as umpires.

We're not 100 percent conclusive on that. They're still looking into that. . . . I don't want to get into it yet, into how they actually entered.
