en Once recruits some and see the energy Coach Carroll puts out, you'll do anything for the guy, ... When I was a recruit, I knew he was a great defensive coach, and then when I found out he was going to get a great offensive mind like Norm Chow , I was like, 'We can't lose here.'

en Charlie also has an advantage when he's talking to kids, because he's won Super Bowls with his offense. Not every pro coach who comes into the colleges can say that. Now Pete Carroll surrounded himself with great recruiters and he's a great recruiter himself. His pitch was that he could get his recruits to the pros, and he's delivered. USC is not that easy of a place to recruit -- the facilities are below average, the stadium's below average, the neighborhood's below average, but he's made it look easy.

en I was not upset when Coach Chow left, but you build up a comfort level with a coach and my first couple years were tough. My last couple years with him were great. We developed a personal relationship. We talked about all sorts of things. Once Coach Chow left, I was like, I'm happy for him. I still keep in contact with him.

en From the moment I mentioned the possibility of coach Chow coming in for a visit, Steve was excited. I think their relationship is very good right now. Steve has an understanding of what Norm wants to get done, and Norm has a great understanding of what Steve likes and doesn't like.

en Usually when you recruit a lineman, you have a really good feel if they are going to be an offensive or defensive lineman. Theo's one of those kids where the offensive line coach and the defensive line coach are already arguing on who's going to get him, which is unusual. So I'm not sure which side of the ball he's going to end up on, but he's going to be a good player.

en Sometimes I think he knows the offense better than coach [Norm] Chow,

en He's a top level coach and its really great to be able to play under him and learn from him. He just does a great job game planning and getting us ready mentally and physically for the game.
