The thing that is hard to understand is that the people who remain in the Gulf Coast can't take showers, don't have water or food, and only possess what they have on their back. That takes money: There's no way around it. A 16-ounce can of food won't feed very many people in a shelter, but a truckload of No. 10 cans will.

What we do is probably on the external edge of how much sharing is involved. We share everything -- the house, the health care, the food and basic household items, like toothpaste and soap. When you live in this community, you get all your basic needs met, in exchange for working for the benefit of the group.

It affects sleep, school, their mood. We're trying to identify what other things are playing into that. Sleep disturbance is important in resolving that issue.
