The teams that showed up were very-high quality. Jasper (won senior boys) is picked to win the state meet in their classification. Southside Batesville came down and beat our junior girls by one point; it was a close race.

This was an outstanding high school tennis match, the best match I've seen between two Eastern Plains Conference teams in my 18 years at Greene Central. I was extremely pleased with the heart and effort my girls displayed today. We had to play well today to beat a truly outstanding Tarboro team.

We played very well at the weekend and when we do it is hard for teams to beat us because we have a lot of quality in the side,

Our first eight games are all tough games. We've played some quality teams, beat them. Maybe we can be a quality team, too.

We've played good in stretches. We have pretty good depth on the team this year. A lot of teams have three strong girls. After that, the quality drops off. We have six strong girls.

The girls' confidence has been up ever since the Tri-Central loss, really. We still played with Jeff for three-and-a-half quarters. McCutcheon only beat us by eight. And then we went to Benton Central and played pretty well for most of the game. I think a combination of all those teams will help.

Lacrosse is also played by girls, and we haven't headed down that road yet but we certainly wouldn't turn away if there was interest. We just kind of got things going with the boys' teams. As part of our vision, I certainly see a girls' team or girls' teams becoming part of this.

Our girls played fearless tennis. If we can beat the No. 1 team (in league), then we should be able to compete well in the second go-round with these teams. It certainly is encouraging to us.

I would have loved the opportunity to play against Ottawa this year. We missed the entire division. Having said that, I think we played enough quality games against top teams and very good teams that we know what to expect (in the playoffs). We played well on the road. We played well at home. We went into good teams? buildings and won.

When you beat teams that are quality programs, quality teams, it means something to you.

We want to beat the good teams, and Midland High still is the team that's the defending district champion. We know these other teams and they know us. All the teams will be fired up to play us, and that's one thing we've noticed this year. Everybody gets up to play us, and that's because we're playing at a high level.

It's a shame that one of the teams had to lose. Butternut played their hearts out. The last time we played them we beat them at the buzzer. These are balanced teams with our loss of (Randall) Walker. We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

The girls knew all along they had potential. They figured out we could beat some of those teams we'd played close last year. They figured out they weren't just mediocre.
