The award is for going above and beyond. Jon has always been there, and he's started support groups to help people when they need it most.

This year at the civic award ceremony they recognized some groups that would be examples of the kinds of groups that would be honored next year and could actually get the award.

All the Iraqi groups got support and help from Syria. And now we have reached the position of rule, Syria should continue its support of these groups, the current ruling groups in Iraq that are friendly to Syria.

This started at a grass roots level. Volunteers took women into their own homes, which was quite risky. They had a makeshift child care facility so that women could have support groups. These people saw a need and made it happen.

I'm expecting it to work like other support groups that we have. Our regular support groups are held once a week, and I'd at least like to reach that goal.

Computer support groups are often conceived of as places where people exchange information, emotional support and encouragement, but it's interesting that another possible benefit appears to come just from having the opportunity to talk openly and constructively about living with breast cancer independent of actual support they receive from others.

[We realized] that in spite of all the sadness and devastation, people were looking to us for ... I wouldn't say relief, but a distraction, a support system. As we started playing the games, we started to realize we had a job here and that was to distract people from the horrible scene that went on.

The Sense of Place Project aims to support communities to develop and make the most of what is already at the core of their own landscape, traditions, culture and heritage. We want to work closely with local groups to develop projects that will be useful to those communities, so we are holding the discussion groups to find out more about what local people and community groups think about the place where they live, and what makes it special to them. In other words, what gives them a 'sense of place'.

When we set out to identify quality groups throughout the state we started with a long list of groups that had demonstrated a history of excellence. Then we started paring them down, based on the most representative programs within those factors of genre, grade level, geographic location and excellence. When it came down to the list of 21, Parsons orchestra was one of those.

NASA does a great job of communicating with people who are already predisposed to support portions of the agency's programs. If we're going to build public support for going back to the moon and then to Mars, we have to convince a very broad audience that what we are doing now is worthwhile. Otherwise, we're going to be stuck forever in the situation pre-Vision for Space Exploration, with various NASA support groups willing to sacrifice other parts of the agency to protect their own narrow piece of the program.

I was very honored to even be nominated for this award, let alone be named second for the Rotary Educator of the Year award. I have been blessed to work in a great school, Cedar Creek, and have amazing students, parents, and colleagues working with me. I wish there were enough awards to go around for so many other educators. Our district is full of people deserving of this award. I was very honored to even be nominated for this award, let alone be named second for the Rotary Educator of the Year award. Even though there are many women with breast cancer participating in online support groups, this is among the first research studies to demonstrate measurable benefits from participation in such groups.

The Sapphire Award recognizes and rewards community health programs that have demonstrated success and high merit. The Award's recognition of effective initiatives is meant to promote greater and more lasting support for improved services and systems that can be sustained over time.

A new kind of award has been added -- the deathbed award. It is not an award of any kind. Either the recipient has not acted at all, or was not nominated, or did not win the award the last few times around. It is intended to relieve the guilty conscience of the Academy members and save face in front of the public. The Academy has the horrible taste to have a star, choking with emotion, present this deathbed award so that there can be no doubt in anybody's mind why the award is so hurriedly given. Lucky is the actor who is too sick to watch the proceedings on television.
