en When I started cross country, I didn't have any expectations - I just wanted to run and get better for track. This is just a plus.

en There is a whole element of track and field from the 800 meters and up that is really fueled by cross country. In those events, we weren't having much of a showing. A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. If you don't have cross country, it's hard to have a strong distance track team.

en He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this.

en In the fall, I still ran cross country. In the winter you had indoor, in the spring you have track and in the summer I competed in Europe.
